    will allow a user to move around within a 15 by 15 foot area of two base stations which track the users movements As two big players in their respective industries HTC and Valve s partnership could shake up the VR landscape one that is still anyone s to win HTC s value lies primarily in its ability to manufacture hardware Its most highly regarded consumer product has been its Android phone the HTC One M8 considered to be one of the most beautifully designed and well built smartphones in recent years While the One M8 failed to capture as much of the market as Apple and Samsung s competing devices with its smaller marketing budget and a lack of compelling new and exclusive features the device was raved about by critics who continuously praised its build quality and hardware design As far as virtual reality goes HTC would be hard pressed to find a better software partner than Valve As proprietors of Steam the online marketplace that sells more than 70 percent of all PC game digital downloads Valve s reach is vast and they already have the infrastructure in place to distribute content to a wide audience on day one In addition Valve holds a certain amount of credibility among gamers and clout within the industry when they announce a new project people pay attention Valve s strength as a partner not only extends to its control of the Steam marketplace but also to its roots as a game developer Valve is responsible for a number of popular and critical successes Half Life Counter Strike Portal Team Fortress 2 Left 4 Dead and more some of which have been outfitted with Oculus support already Valve s existing support for virtual reality extends further than that In beta is

  • Future of Storytelling | Bjork’s VR Music Video
    music video for the track Stonemilker will be directed by Björk s frequent collaborator Andrew Thomas Huang and will be available to view on Oculus Rift In an interview the singer stated It s easy to get really intimate with virtual reality It s almost more intimate than real life It also has this crazy panoramic quality I think it s really exciting The Stonemilker VR music video will be shown as part of MoMA s retrospective of Björk s career from March 8th to June 7th 2015 Another Oculus Rift music video for the Vulnicura song Black Lake will be shown at the exhibition this one longer and described as an immersive 10 minute music and film experience The Björk exhibit has been in development for more than three years and seeks to explore and celebrate Björk s career as a singer composer and musician through interactive exhibits sound film visuals instruments objects and costumes Klaus Biesenbach MoMA s curator at large helped conceive and develop the show after spending twelve years attempting to convince Björk to put on an exhibition Biesenbach said in a recent interview that Björk s at that point in her career where many artists

    a virtual reality experience to your iPhone To navigate through the app the user is required to turn his or her whole body not just the screen Physically moving allows the user to explore the scene unfolding around them Even though the user controls his or her vantage point Slappe sometimes cuts between shots within a scene to interesting effect Tapping on the screen lets the user switch between a series of interconnected looping scenes Users are free to tap at random but four navigation symbols can be used to move through the app in a more structured way Still no matter how someone moves through the app there is no real beginning or end Many of the scenes themselves are pretty creepy in particular those that play out in what appears to be an abandoned basement The people walking around in screen printed masks only add to the eerie mood The strong sense of foreboding that permeates 8 is a testament to the sound design and shot selection Other scenes are interesting to explore because of the contrast with the basement scenes and the novelty of the setting for example the loops set in the forest and on the

    clear why the warning is in place Described as a psychological 2D puzzle platformer this PC game from Swagabyte Games explores the duality of trying to live a life with mental illness The player controls a pixelated avatar and must travel through surreal fractured memories which have been darkened and changed by depression In order to traverse these memories the player must switch between two worlds one dark and one light and it quickly becomes apparent why both realms are necessary The platforms that are needed to move forward are only visible in one dimension or the other it s up to the player to figure out this dichotomy and navigate the jagged skylines grimy streets and dreamlike landscapes that make up Disorder The plot of the game arises as pieces of information about the character s broken relationship with his brother are revealed as the game progresses The player must use these fleeting clues to piece together the backstory of the character but they also provide a look into the self destructive sometimes chaotic thought process of someone suffering from depression Although the dark themes and difficult puzzles may mean the game isn t for everyone many gamers will

    Gumby like figure that enhances the already mysterious wooded landscape So you start to explore Your journey begins with a peaceful walk in the woods and a limited set of commands walk run jump fly or crouch down to discover what lies beneath the forest floor Before long you realize that you re not alone A shadowy dark figure appears with a camera in hand and a mischievous game of tag ensues Meanwhile there s the percussive soundscape and rainbow spectrum that blends layers of animation watercolor and live action together No you did not ingest hallucinogenics everyone can take in the kaleidoscope of music and color You re next transported to an open field in the Canadian outback under a massive sky and a cinematic showing of the Aurora Borealis So much for a casual walk in the woods If you can t get your hands on an Oculus Rift the browser version still allows for 360 immersion with your frame of view controlled simply by moving your mouse It s right at home beside other projects produced by NFB Interactive with simple frameworks and stunning visuals that allow the mind to wander Like Primal or Seven Deadly Digital
