  • Future of Storytelling | Samsung Milk VR
news for Samsung enthusiasts The Samsung Milk media suite will now feature Milk VR content developed for the Samsung exclusive Gear headset The Milk VR offerings join the music and video content that s currently available through the service on mobile devices and soon enough Samsung Smart TV s and an ad supported website that ll be available for anyone to enjoy The Walking Dead s executive producer David Alpert is one of the content producers mentioned in the annoucement along with Red Bull Media House Mountain Dew Refinery 29 NBA and a number of others It should help put to rest some of the early criticism pointed at the Gear that zeroed in on the lack of intriguing VR experiences available on the device It also sets the stage for the headset to go full on consumer product with subsequent iterations and while it won t happen overnight as more developers early adopters creatives and brands see what s capable and have their interest piqued the sooner it ll be realized With Samsung throwing it s weight behind the Gear and underwriting the costs of getting premium content on the headset it shouldn t be long before the Gear

  • Future of Storytelling | The Sensational December Machine
Device 6 and Year Walk released a Christmas present for it s fans titled The Sensational December Machine It s a lovely little interactive story about an inventor and her newest creation and it features hand drawn art and text as well as music by Daniel Olsen which progresses in tandem with the story It s best enjoyed in fullscreen mode and in order to read the text you really need to make an effort to progress slowly and savor each and every word A second go around is necessary to properly soak in the music which really shines bright and the beauty of this quaint little project is that multiple run throughs are capable in just a few minutes Remember it s that time of the year to slow down and savor the little things whether that s family friends or simple narrative devices Unlike other Simogo projects The Sensational December Machine isn t offered on mobile The text heavy experience wouldn t have nearly the same impact even if your phone resembles a tablet The bigger the screen you can find the more you ll enjoy it Simogo reccomends that you grab some good headphones and cozy up

  • Future of Storytelling | Jack White: Third-D
footage Jaunt is no stranger to turning concert footage into virtual reality prior to creating THIRD D with White the company developed a VR experience from Paul McCartney s performance of Live and Let Die at Candlestick Park in San Francisco Enter Jaunt s partnership with Jack White Disclaimer THIRD D is not your average app so far it s only available for Android and requires a Google Cardboard viewer which allows you to experience VR apps through your smartphone The viewer gives you a 360 degree backstage view of White during three performances that were filmed in 3D Specifically you can watch Ball and Biscuit and Freedom at 21 from a Fenway Park concert and Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground from a show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado As with any VR experience you can participate in the immersion from all angles within the scene watch from the wings as White strums his guitar from what feels like ten feet away then turn around and marvel at the immense crowd cheering in the audience The beauty of this experience is that it s relatively accessible compared to getting your hands on an Oculus Rift all you need

  • Future of Storytelling | ASMR
or experience but some people REALLY get off on this stuff Like any number of subcultures ASMR has exploded in the digital age because of accessibility and strength in numbers The ability to pull up pleasurable ASMR experiences at any time feeds on itself with an ever growing community of ASMR enthusiasts clamoring for fresh content Strikingly there is no scientific evidence to bolster the validity of ASMR but with millions of people swearing by it it s tough to dismiss outright The storytelling implications of ASMR hitting the mainstream are pretty big Take Maria aka GentleWhispering on YouTube A Russian expat and Maryland resident her videos have racked up close to 87 million views with many people leaving comments saying that GentleWhispering helped them get to sleep or weather a personal problem that was making them sad or anxious Hard scientific evidence to back up these claims would certainly be nice but there s undoubtedly something going on here People watch these videos and feel good afterwards If you are a story creator and you are looking to reach a broad audience why not throw in a number of whispers and other spine tingling sensory exploiters if it suits
