    to rectify this gap in the arc of a city s daily story by creating delicately designed steel structures to adorn light poles in downtown Chicago The structures will be packed with sensors to collect a variety of data and will be installed in coming months with almost 50 planned to be in place by year s end These sensors will possess the ability to collect data on a variety of daily environmental and social habits of Chicagoans ranging from humidity and air quality measurements to digital listening and imaging Creators of the sensors hope that the details of city life identified by the sensors can be combined to form a more cohesive narrative of the conditions of an urban area and thus help policymakers to more effectively improve upon the standard of living While it might be easy to confuse the implementation of Big Data in a dense urban area with some archetypal Big Brother objective Chicago city seems to have more benign and intriguing plans in the works for its application of the technology The project has formally been dubbed Array of Things and is able to collect data that improves the ability of city officials to better

    met with that eternal guilt trip by a family member you have accidentally I swear neglected to contact for several weeks or even months you never call Gulp Now in a recent post featured on Ludum Dare you can resolve that Freudian guilt before you even step foot on a plane via a virtual puzzle game that explores the origins of the phrase as it relates to familial connections and the stories that those relationships form over time The premise of the game entitled of course You Never Call is essentially a thinly veiled metaphor to reunite your block family by in turn building or burning bridges to the various islands on which they have been separated And just in case you were hoping these virtual relationships might be any easier to navigate than their real life counterparts the creators a collaborative effort by the likes of David Selassie Nathan Hinchey Cosmo Ray and Helen Ip have got you covered with stubborn grandparents nitpicky siblings and others who exasperatingly refuse to just do what you tell them Grandma It s complicated it s frustrating and it s addictively entertaining But so is life and that s exactly what makes this

    not in the loop on Young Adult dystopian franchises Mockingjay Part 1 the third installment in the movie adaptations will arrive in theaters in three weeks To drum up more enthusiasm for what is already one of the most highly anticipated films of the year Lionsgate and Google created a miniseries called District Voices which premiered last week on The Hunger Games s YouTube channel Some of YouTube s best known personalities star as Panem citizens in District Voices from iJustine to Jimmy Wong and Ashley Adams of the Feast of Fiction channel The miniseries takes viewers on a behind the scenes tour of the Panem districts and each episode is a quick watch at two to three minutes in length The installments were released daily over the previous week and each hones in on a specific aspect of life around Panem In one Derek Muller from the YouTube channel Veritasium explores new ways for the Capitol to generate electricity and Shane Fazen of the fightTIPS YouTube channel showcases Peacekeeper training techniques in another Capitol fashion baking techniques and transportation round out the other pieces of content featured in the series The episodes are accompanied by CapitolTV the official government of Panem website Through the CapitolTV broadcast on the site Hunger Games fans can view speeches to the Panem nation by President Snow Donald Sutherland and submit feedback as a citizen of Panem The site s tagline For the citizens By the Capitol and stamp of approval Sanctioned by the Capitol Ministry of Information magnify the sense that your average Hunger Games fan can take an active part in this fictional universe Ultimately CapitolTV and each episode in the miniseries go a long way toward bringing the imagined world of Panem to life and making it feel real to millions
