    by the Navajo to deliver service to tribal members residing within 110 Chapters and their surrounding communities Under the leadership of the Navajo Housing Authority NHA Board of Commissioners BOC and Ms Aneva J Yazzie Chief Executive Officer CEO the Navajo Housing Authority has been diligently working to improve delivery of its housing services to the Navajo families The NHA BOC and management are committed to providing quality and affordable homes The NHA BOC and management team experienced an unprecedented challenge upon change in the NHA executive leadership in February 2007 The Federal government from the U S Housing and Urban Development HUD Southwest Office of Navajo American Programs SWONAP the HUD Office of Inspector General OIG for audits and the HUD OIG for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity FHEO converged upon NHA in the summer of 2007 to conduct field compliance reviews and issued respective deficiency reports NHA was also involved in major bankruptcy proceedings due to failed Fort Defiance Housing Corporation FDHC a former sub recipient of NHA NHA also presented key court testimonies in bankruptcy court on this issue and has successfully secured actions favorable to NHA in the restructuring of the failed FDHC operating under a new management structure Sandstone Housing Incorporated At the same time NHA actively participated in the Former Bennett Freeze Recovery Task Force where the NHA CEO served as co chair of the task force assisting in developing the final report from the task force This occurred amidst the reauthorization of the NAHASDA in 2007 and authorized in 2008 where key congressional testimonies were provided by the NHA CEO and to various congressional subcommittees The NHA played a key role in securing the reauthorization of NAHASDA in the fall of 2008 and has participated in the negotiation rule making sessions in 2010
