    and dredging of the Salmon River construction of more dams in Hell s Canyon and the mining venture at the base of Castle Peak in the White Cloud Mountains In the 1970 s IWF was one of the entities that was instrumental in gaining public support and politically facilitating the establishment of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness area In the 1980 s IWF responded to increasing political influence by special interests that was posing threats to wildlife and its habitat These efforts included work on eliminating 1080 use as a means of predator control ensuring riparian lands along the Snake River were maintained for the public and supporting the reauthorization of the Endangered Species Act During the 1990 s IWF worked with the IDFG and the legislature to secure passage of strong anti poaching legislation that increased the penalties for the more serious crimes IWF wrote the bills secured sponsors of the legislation and worked with legislators to secure passage of these pieces of legislation IWF also worked hard to secure an elk license plate that benefited non game non hunted species We also worked hard at the legislature to secure a more equitable share of the funds raised by the bluebird and elk license plates to the non game fund IWF helped secure a needed fee increase for IDFG in which one of the aspects was the repeal of free licenses Since 2000 the IWF was instrumental in getting legislation passed that added a cutthroat license plate that enhanced the funding of the non game programs The IWF was the first to voice concern for the danger of Chronic Wasting Disease CWD to deer and elk populations This disease has had a devastating impact on deer and elk populations in other states IWF sponsored a symposium

    to experience some of the best places in Idaho Rick Ward Treasurer Rick is a wildlife biologist by profession now focusing on habitat related issues in southwest Idaho The thing I enjoy most is spending time outdoors with my family I hope to bring a strong biological background to IWF and provide a solid science based position from which to support Idaho s fish and wildlife resources Chris Hunt Director Chris Hunt of Idaho Falls is the national communications director for Trout Unlimited where he s worked since 2005 Chris is an avid fly fisher and a freelance writer He is the author of two fly fishing books and writes regularly for newspapers magazines and online fly fishing magazines He also blogs frequently at Trout Unlimited and at Eat More Brook Trout He is married with two kids the whole family loves to fish and hunt and spend quality time together outdoors Greg McReynolds Director Jim Nunley Past President A time will come in your life when you ll realize how important it is to respect wildlife and wildlife habitat What you do to help manage wildlife and wildlife habitat will determine it s future My name is Jim Nunley I was born on September 14 1938 in Ellensburg Washington My father was a Game Warden for Kittitas County and the State of Washington Consequently I was able to spend a lot of time in the outdoors and was taught the proper ethics of being a true sportsman It seemed like every weekend was a new adventure and another lesson After graduation from high school and 4 years in the U S Navy I returned to Ellensburg to attend Central Washington College I spent my summers working for the Forest Service and on our cattle ranch on the Colville Indian

    VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES WITH THE IDAHO WILDLIFE FEDERATION Fund Raising Assistants Volunteers are needed to assist with the Idaho Wildlife Federation IWF fund raising program Work will primarily be on planning and organization We are flexible on time commitment and work site location for this position Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed subject to IWF policy Membership Assistants Volunteers needed to assist the IWF membership director in planning and administrative tasks associated with the membership program We are flexible on time commitment and worksite location for this position Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed subject to IWF policy Wildlife habitat projects Work on existing and new wildlife habitat projects and monitor condition and use of project areas and wildlife habitat in general Much of the field work is in remote and difficult areas Volunteers may need to camp overnight on some projects Some projects may be located closer to the urban centers in the Treasure Valley area Multiple positions will be available with a limited number starting in October 2007 Current information on IWF wildlife projects can be found on our website at www idahowildlife org Volunteers should be prepared to commit to 2 4 days a month while
