    TRACKS WINNERS GET INVOLVED Get Involved in the IGMR There are three ways you can help the IGMR learn more about billfish worldwide 1 Sponsor an IGMR satellite tag Individuals or teams can partner to sponsor a miniPAT for 4 500 USD which covers the price of the tag ARGOS satellite time and materials to leader the tag IGFA receives no profit from tag sponsorhip The tag that surfaces the furthest from the deployment site wins the race for the event Upcoming IGMR events SSFC Marlin Slam January 23 2016 Victoria Seychelles Custom Shootout May 11 16 2016 Abaco Beach Resort Bahamas 2 Host or coordinate an IGMR tagging event Do you know of an area that s famous for a hot billfish bite Help us connect the IGMR with billfish locations worldwide IGMR events often take place during fishing tournaments because collecting ample data requires sufficient angler participation in an areas of decent fishing To host or coordinate an IGMR tagging event at least five tag sponsorships must be secured in an area of decent fishing Many IGMR events provide additional incentives for winners individuals or teams of the IGMR event like free entry to the next year s tournament The tag that tag travels the furthest of all in a given year will receive airfare and a ticket to be recognized at the annual IGFA International Auction Banquet in Florida USA next January Check out the list of past IGMR event winners 3 Make a gift to the IGMR Contributions to the IGMR help support airfare for researchers and tagging equipment A gift from you will help us dedicate more resources to billfish research To discuss these or additional ways you would like to support the IGFA s billfish research please contact IGFA Conservation Director Jason Schratwieser at

    Contact Donor Opportunities Donor Societies Member Discounts Membership Benefits IGFA Participates in the 2nd Regional Workshop on Billfish Management and Conservation Billfish species blue and white marlin sailfish and spearfish make significant contributions to Caribbean economies through commercial and recreational fisheries and are also incidental by catch species from large scale tuna long line fisheries operating both within and beyond national jurisdictions Because collective action by Caribbean nations is required to improve billfish management and conservation 50 experts from over 20 countries from the Caribbean region and the USA met on November 9 2015 in Panama City Panama for the 2nd Regional Workshop on Billfish Management and Conservation The three day workshop was cosponsored by the World Bank Ocean Partnership Western Central Atlantic Fisheries Commission WECAFC and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations FAO during the 68th Conference of the Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute GCFI The primary objective of the workshop was to discuss The Caribbean Billfish Project a 1 95 million USD project to develop business plans for two pilot trials to create sustainable management and conservation of billfish within the Western Central Atlantic Ocean The IGFA is playing a significant role in this project by working with consultants to develop billfish economic and assessment methodologies and by serving as Secretariat for the Consortium on Billfish Management and Conservation CBMC During the workshop attendees Selected two countries for the pilot trials Grenada and Dominican Republic to test and validate innovative rights based management arrangements Presented and reviewed preliminary results of current research on the status of billfish resources in the Western Central Atlantic the value of billfish resources to both commercial and recreational fisheries the application of the Manual on Economic Impact Assessment on recreational fisheries in Martinique and Bahamas the use of rights based

    Membership Benefits IGFA Partners on Carribbean Billfish Project Billfish species including blue and white marlin sailfish and spearfish make significant contributions to the Caribbean economies livelihoods and food security through two very distinct fisheries commercial and recreational Billfish are also important incidental by catch species from large scale tuna long line fisheries operating both within and beyond national jurisdictions Declining trends due to overfishing have been recognized in most billfish species across the Atlantic This represents a threat to the fisheries sector and to the overall sustainability of respective contributions to regional economies The Caribbean Billfish Project is a 1 95 million USD project component of the GEF funded World Bank implemented Ocean Partnership for Sustainable Fisheries and Biodiversity Conservation Models for Innovation and Reform The Project aims to develop business plans for one or more long term pilot projects aimed at sustainable management and conservation of billfish within the Western Central Atlantic Ocean The divergence in value between the commercial and recreational subsectors represents a significant entry point and opportunity for conservation and value creation which this project aims to exploit The completed business plans will incorporate the economic technical and financial rationale and feasibility to attract investment involving private and public capital The 3 year Caribbean Billfish Project consists of the following 4 components 1 Generating value and conservation outcomes through innovative management 2 Strengthening regional billfish management and conservation planning 3 A functional and responsive Consortium on Billfish Management and Conservation 4 Business plans developed for pilot investments in sustainable management and conservation of billfish The IGFA has been selected as the lead recreational fishing organization for the Project and will provide scientific advice on measures concerning the conservation and management of billfish resources including biological social and economic aspects of billfish fisheries in the Caribbean IGFA
