    the fish never appeared stressed and they revived it until it had full color and looked very healthy and strong The tag was generously sponsored by the Tuna Club Foundation and is due to report on May 8 2016 Five days after the MABT concluded on September 17 2015 Team Bounder deployed their tag on behalf of Los Pescadores in memory of Captain Ron What s the Bottom Line Johnson The striped marlin an estimated 77 kg 170 lb fish fought for 20 minutes with angler Alyson Gillet before Matt Earl tagged the fish aboard Bounder with Captain and Andy Crean The John and Donna Crean Foundation independently sponsored this tag which is due to surface on May 14 2016 On September 28 2015 the fourth tag of the race was deployed on an estimated 50 kg 110 lb striped marlin by Charlie Albright after a quick fight with angler Bob Hoose while fishing with Kea Kai Captain Jock Albright Unfortunately the tag reported the very next day The data indicated that the marlin died shortly after tagging as the tag went straight to the bottom and popped off after one day of detecting no change in depth as programmed The light levels and temperature data did not indicate a predation event Jock not only fully sponsored this tag for Team Kea Kai on behalf of Los Pescadores but he also cosponsored the sixth tag deployed in the race with IGFA Representatives Bob Sally Kurz One week later on October 5 2015 while fishing with Andreya Captain Karl Kogler angler Nate Shill fought an estimated 54 kg 120 lb striped marlin for approximately 30 minutes before he released the fish with fifth satellite tag in the race for Team Andreya on behalf of Los Pescadores Andreya was the winning team of the 2014 IGMR so it was no surprise to us when their data sheet recorded that the tag was perfectly positioned and secure and they took extra time to revive the fish thoroughly so it swam away healthy and strong Team Andreya s tag due up on June 1 2016 is a collaborative sponsorship effort from Spectra USA Moe Joorabchi Andreya Shill SNR Graphics Inc Suresh Khemlani TJ Johnson Matt Kharrazi Linda Macaulay Mary Stein Rick Hult Mike Coon Karl KK Kogler Michele Kogler The Grey Squirrel Joseph Marshall Jake Josh Wilson Don Ebright Cortney Walstrom Gail Nelson Kelly Shill David Shill Diane Shill Sara Unke and Jeff Clary Two days later after a short bout with Brett Catron cosponsor and Kea Kai captain Jock Albright tagged an estimated 54 kg 120 lb striped marlin for Team Kea Kai Team Royal Slam on behalf of Los Pescadores Balboa Angling Club Unfortunately the tag reported nine days later 61 nautical miles nm away from where it was deployed After close examination of the data it appears that the tag pulled free from the fish The pin was not broken and there is no indication this was associated with a predation

    Tim Reed satellite tagged for Team Game Fishing Club of South Australia 2 Northern Lights Captain Kevin Nakamaru described the fish as being very healthy when it was released with the second satellite tag of the race One hour later the third satellite tag of the race was deployed on an estimated 64 kg 141 lb blue marlin by Takeo Uki Izawa after a quick fight with angler and sponsor Masaharu Matushita while fishing aboard Ihui Nui with Captain McGrew Rice and Deckhand Carlton Arai Not only did Masaharu solely sponsor a satellite tag for this year s HIBT but he also fully sponspored a tag in the 2012 HIBT and cosponsored a tag in the 2013 HIBT Thank you Masaharu for your support Two days later on August 13 2015 the second satellite tag sponsored by Bob and Cherekee Hill for Team Game Fishing Club of South Australia 2 was deployed by Jay Tabil on an estimated 73 kg 160 lb blue marlin caught by Tim Reed while fishing aboard Lady Dee with Captain Bill BC Crawford and Deckhand RJ Paugherty The following morning of the final day of fishing on August 14 2015 veteran IGMR sponsors and IGFA Representatives Rolf and Ralph Czabayski caught and tagged a large 102 kg 225 lb blue while fishing with High Flier Captain Guy Terwiliger The father and son duo of Team Game Fishing Club of South Australia described the fish as a little wild but then calm and eventually released in excellent condition with the fifth tag in the race Hours later while fishing with Captain Kenny Llanes on Viken IGFA Representative Sally Kurz hooked the second largest blue in the race estimated at 127 kg 280 lb and after a half hour fight Ricky Perkins leadered the marlin alongside the boa t where IGFA Representative Bob Kurz tagged it with the sixth satellite tag of the race The tag was cosponsored by IGFA Represenatives Bob Sally Kurz Robert Chavers Robert Dudley and Chuck Salinger for Laguna Niguel Billfish Club Teams 1 2 This is the their third year of sponsorship and we are grateful for their support Days after the HIBT concluded and 2015 Tag and Release Tournament TART began on August 18 2015 Ihui Nui Captain McGrew Rice took aboard a tag that was sponsored for but never deployed in the 2014 TART The seventh tag of the race sponsored by Ken Corday was deployed by Kaulike Rice on an estimated 79 kg 175 lb blue marlin after a quick fight with Rick Fitts The following afternoon on August 19 2015 the eighth tag of the race was deployed on an estimated 79 kg 175 lb blue by Butch Chee after an eight minute bout with Dr Brent Nelson while fishing with Humdinger s Jeff Fay The following morning Mike Dakil tagged an estimated 68 kg 150 lb blue caught by Don Brandt while fishing aboard Kona Blue with Captain Bill BC Crawford According to the data sheet the

    big game tournaments in Asia July 17 20 2015 marked the 37 th JIBT and the debut of the IGMR in Japan where five tags were generously sponsored by the Japan Game Fish Association and the late IGFA Chairman Packy Offield Due to floods and landslides caused by typhoon Nangka the first two days of the tournament were canceled but the fishing was hot during the final two days of the JIBT On July 19 2015 Forward Captain Yoshi Suzuki tagged an estimated 100 kg 220 lb blue marlin after a 25 minute fight with Kumi Saegusa The fish was described as strong and healthy as it swam away with the first satellite tag of the race 57 days later the tag reported 567 nautical miles nm away and the track will be available to view on the race page soon One hour later Morio Wakasugi caught an estimated 125 kg 276 lb blue that Satoshi Ikeda released with the second satellite tag in the IGMR while fishing aboard Phoenix The tag is due to pop up on March 15 2016 and we can t wait to see where the marlin swims The following morning of July 20 2015 Masakatsu Sakuma reeled in an estimated 80 kg 176 lb blue marlin after an hour fight before Mahalo Captain Shigeshi Tanimoto released the fish with the third satellite tag of the race The tag is due to report on March 16 2016 The following day on July 21 2015 Tetsu Yoshida tagged an estimated 120 kg 265 lb blue marlin after a quick fight with Ken Tamura aboard Admiral Although the deployment was described as a good healthy release the tag popped off the only nine days later and 197 nm from where it was deployed Unfortunately there is not enough

    the inaugural 2015 Hamilton Bermuda IGFA Great Marlin Race during the 2015 Bermuda Billfish Release Cup June 29 July 1 and the 2015 Bermuda Triple Crown Billfish Championship July 3 7 Bermuda Billfish Blast July 9 13 Bermuda Big Game Classic and July 15 19 Sea Horse Anglers Club Billfish Tournament During the Bermuda Billfish Release Cup and Billfish Blast two blue marlin were released with satellite tags caught and sponsored by Lainey Jones of Mama Who and a tag sponsored by Galati Yacht Sales was placed on a blue the following week during the Bermuda Big Game Classic In the last leg of the tournament Sea Horse Anglers Club Billfish Tournament six more healthy blue marlin swam away with satellite tags sponsored by Dan Murphy of Last Stall Frank and Mary Ellen Rodriguez of Fa La Me Wally Whitley of Que Mas Lainey Jones of Mama Who Moises Roman Maionica of Marlin Raptor and Raymond Craig of Amarula Sun One more tag generously sponsored by Jim Jensen of Plane Simple is awaiting deployment On July 15 2015 IGFA Representative Luca Bonfanti was fishing off the coast of Porto Cervo in Sardinia Island Italy when he caught and tagged an estimated 15 kg 33 lb Mediterranean spearfish Tetrapturus belone from his boat Maguro San Just four months prior IGFA Chairman Packy Offield and son Chase Offield placed six tags on Shortbill spearfish Tetrapturus angustirostris while fishing together in Hawaii Not only did these events mark the first time spearfish were added to the IGFA Great Marlin Race but to our knowledge this is the first time satellite tags have ever been deployed in both species These data will be of particular interest to scientists as very little is known about the migratory behavior of these species July 17 20 2015 marked the debut of the IGMR in Japan During the Japan International Billfish Tournament five miniPAT tags were sponsored by IGFA Chairman Packy Offield and the Japan Game Fish Association Although typhoon Nangka severely affected the first few days of fishing 19 blue marlin were caught during the final day of the tournament and four were released with satellite tags The IGMR returned to its roots during the 56th Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament HIBT which took place on August 10 14 2015 in Kailua Kona Hawaii where ten tags were deployed on healthy blue marlin by Teams Kona Game Fishing Club Osaka Game Fishing Club of South Australia 2 Kona Game Fishing Club Taiyo Game Fishing Club of South Australia 1 Laguna Niguel Billfish Club Teams 1 2 Team Greenberg Family Joshua Tree Foundation and Laguna Niguel Billfish Club Team 3 Recently the IGMR joined the 34th Annual Master Angler Billfish Tournament MABT in Balboa California on September 11 12 2015 where anglers deployed satellite tags on striped marlin for the second year in a row So far two tags have been deployed by Team Black Fin on behalf of Dana Angling Club and Team Magellan on behalf of Tuna
