    Enrollment Overview Program Schedule Session Faculty Continuing Education Session Materials Dates Locations Fees Enrollment Need Help Email info ihi org Call 617 301 4800 866 787 0831 Toll Free Available Monday Friday 9am 5pm ET IHI Offering Page Program Schedule Page Content This ten month professional development program includes three four day face to face workshops and a series of web based sessions in the months between meetings The monthly webinars provide an opportunity for participants to receive feedback on their projects not only from the faculty but also from fellow participants The three four day on site sessions are October 27 30 2014 January 26 29 2015 May 18 21 2015 The program begins September 18 2014 with a pre work conference call Program Agenda The curriculum is built around both theory and practical skills applied to the participants improvement projects It is the combination of theory applied to daily work that makes the Improvement Advisor Professional Development Program unique and provides a foundation for making improvements long after the program is completed Topic areas include The Science of Improvement W E Deming s System of Profound Knowledge The Model for Improvement Using a proven framework to direct and accelerate organizational transformation Scoping Improvement Efforts Using effective chartering techniques to appropriately and efficiently scope projects and link them to the organization s business objectives Understanding Systems and Processes Using driver diagrams and other analytic tools to better understand the system and key interactions Focus on Data for Improvement Using both qualitative and quantitative data learning methods for obtaining organizing and displaying data and statistical process control SPC for analyzing data run charts Pareto diagrams frequency plots and Shewhart control charts Understanding Relationships Using two way tables scatter plots and causal models Gathering Information Using surveys benchmarking idea generation methods

    directed a micro finance program targeting people living with HIV Brandon created the Asaph Children Education Fund This non profit organization is dedicated to providing educational opportunities to children helping them to break the cycle of poverty in Uganda He also spent 5 years as an Improvement Advisor with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement IHI helping to lead their efforts to improve care in low and middle income countries Since leaving IHI Brandon continues to serve as a faculty Improvement Advisor on many of IHI s global initiatives and remains faculty for IHI s Improvement Advisor Professional Development Program He has co authored papers related to quality improvement in low resource environments and has given numerous presentations on Quality Improvement at conferences around the world Gerald J Langley MS Statistician and Consultant Associates in Process Improvement is also a Senior Fellow of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement IHI He has served as faculty for IHI improvement initiatives on improving medication safety innovations in planned care improving service in health care and the Triple Aim initiative to simultaneously improve the care experience and population health while reducing total cost He has also supported a number of large scale improvement initiatives including the HRSA Health Disparities Collaborative and Improving Patient Care for the Indian Health Service His expertise with data and computers plays a key role in his consulting work and research Mr Langley has authored numerous articles on sampling and survey design modeling and fundamental improvement methods and he is a co author of The Improvement Guide Robert Lloyd PhD Executive Director of Performance Improvement Institute for Healthcare Improvement IHI provides leadership in the areas of performance improvement strategies statistical process control methods development of strategic dashboards and capacity building for quality improvement He also serves as faculty for various IHI initiatives and demonstration projects in the US and abroad Before joining IHI Dr Lloyd served as the Corporate Director of Quality Resource Services for Advocate Health Care Director of Quality Measurement for Lutheran General Health System and spent ten years with the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania in various leadership roles He currently serves as a Regional Councilor for the ASQ Health Care Division and is author of numerous articles reports and books Sandra Murray MA Principal Corporate Transformation Concepts is an independent consultant who concentrates her work in the area of effectively using process improvement methods to get strategically vital results She has been an Improvement Advisor with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement since 2002 working in the areas of patient safety as faculty for IHI s Breakthrough Series College and as past Director and current faculty for IHI s Improvement Advisor Professional Development Program Lloyd Provost MS Statistician Associates in Process Improvement helps individuals and organizations learn the science of improvement and to make improvements He co authored the books Quality Improvement through Planned Experimentation The Improvement Guide and The Health Care Data Guide Lloyd in a variety is experienced in applications of statistical process control and in designing

    Health and Safety Manager for two large manufacturing facilities of Tyco North American Printed Circuits in Connecticut His previous experience also includes eight years of active duty in the US Submarine Force where he was responsible for weapons and ship safety as well as nuclear power plant operations Mr Bonacum has a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Certificate in Healthcare Management from the University of San Francisco Frank A Federico RPh Executive Director Strategic Partners Institute for Healthcare Improvement IHI works in the areas of patient safety application of reliability principles in health care preventing surgical complications and improving perinatal care He is faculty for the IHI Patient Safety Executive Development Program and previously co chaired several IHI Patient Safety Collaboratives Mr Federico coaches teams and lectures extensively nationally and internationally on patient safety He is co author of a book chapter and several articles on patient safety and an executive producer of First Do No Harm Part 2 Taking the Lead Previously he was Program Director of the Office Practice Evaluation Program and a Loss Prevention Patient Safety Specialist at Risk Management Foundation of the Harvard Affiliated Institutions and Director of Pharmacy at Children s Hospital Boston Allan Frankel MD is a Principal in Safe Reliable Healthcare a group that works in patient safety quality organizational learning leadership coaching and teamwork He was one of the founders of Pascal Metrics Inc and served for six years as its Co Chief Medical Officer Previously he was the Director of Patient Safety for Partners Healthcare in Boston for seven years Dr Frankel practiced pediatric cardiac and general anesthesia in academic and private institutions before embarking on a journey to study and improve patient safety and health care reliability Throughout his career he has been on the faculty of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement co chairing Safety Collaboratives teaching in IHI s Patient Safety Executive Development Program and serving as faculty for IHI s work with the UK Safer Patients Initiative and Scottish Patient Safety Programme Dr Frankel has worked to improve the safety and reliability of health systems from Singapore to Saudi Arabia in every state in the USA and in all provinces of Canada Tejal Gandhi MD Executive Director of Quality and Safety Brigham and Women s Hospital is also Director of Patient Safety at Partners HealthCare In these roles she has worked to redesign systems to reduce medical errors and improve quality and led efforts to standardize and implement patient safety best practices across Partners A board certified internist she is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School Her research interests focus on patient safety and reducing error using information systems Dr Gandhi won the 2009 John Eisenberg award for her contributions to understanding the epidemiology and possible prevention strategies for medical errors in the outpatient setting Carol Haraden PhD Vice President Institute for Healthcare Improvement IHI is a member of the IHI
