  • for seven years before moving to Florida After living there for 7 years he moved to Chicago in the summer of 2013 as a sophomore at Lincoln Park High School He has been fortunate enough to travel extensively with family in Asia Brazil parts of Europe and America Lincoln Park High School is the 7th school he has attended and these experiences have fostered a deeper understanding and appreciation of the global aspect of the world and its cultures It has also helped him relate to and understand the perspectives of the variety of cultures he interacts with while giving him a special perspective that helps him approach problems creatively and effectively Although English is his first language he speaks Spanish well and Portuguese fluently with his family At the beginning of his sophomore year he and his friend started two CTSOs DECA and FBLA at their school and proceeded to lead the chapters at the school level Since then he s been to several competitions winning first place at the regional and state level as well as at ICDC He served as an Illinois DECA State Officer from 2014 2015 as well and spoke to legislators across Illinois on behalf of DECA He has represented Illinois DECA twice at the ICCCTSO conference where the leaders of all student organizations of Illinois were present He has traveled to Springfield to speak with legislators at the Capitol and plans to continue doing so this year Luccas also co founded a non profit organization called the Chess Institute of Chicago that seeks to pair high school chess players with underprivileged youth He has tackled major projects such as the Sidewalks for Safety initiative he started in Florida that involved working with the local and state government to request Sidewalks in the community

  • has played an integral part in Akshay s personal and professional development DECA has not only helped me develop myself as a business professional but has opened me up to the most amazing experiences and people I have ever met he says As a freshman Akshay joined many clubs but only when he joined DECA his sophomore year did he find his true passion Akshay is currently the Vice President of Competition at the Naperville Central DECA chapter and has worked extensively with members to build strong relationships and business skills As a sophomore Akshay made it to the International Career Development Conference for Hotel and Lodging Management At ICDC Akshay won both the International Third Place award in his event but also the High Score award in role play 2 This year Akshay has also been honored to receive the Naperville Central DECA monthly excellence award In addition to being absolutely infatuated with DECA Akshay hold leadership positions in many different organizations Akshay is the two term vice president of the Naperville Central Business Professionals of America Captain President of the Naperville Central Model United Nations and serves as a councilman for the Class Council among other activities Akshay has been lucky enough to be awarded numerous National and International awards in said organizations Outside of school Akshay serves as a liaison trustee and marketing committee member for the Naperville Education Foundation The skills that Akshay has developed over the years can only add to the continued success of Illinois DECA Akshay s entrepreneurial passions were ignited because of DECA And over the last few years Akshay has gained valuable insight into companies by interning and working at some of the most successful start up companies in the United States Akshay believes that the strong professional and academic basis

  • s VP of Philanthropy He first got a taste of DECA his freshman year when he placed in the Top 10 at State for his Principles roleplay He was thrilled to attend ICDC the next two years last year placing 4th in Marketing Management Series He has been a chapter officer for three years introducing new students to DECA and preparing members for their role play competitions Seeing the State Action Team unite Illinois DECA and organize the state conference every year inspired him to apply for state office Benjy s favorite DECA experiences include hearing guest speakers talk to his chapter searching for authentic fried chicken restaurants during ICDC in Atlanta and meeting new people from across the state at the Illinois Career Development Conference His hope is that every Illinois member has the chance to make similar memories this coming year Benjy loves to stay involved in his school and community through different service projects As Co president of Student Council he is constantly engaged in student led efforts in organizing student activities fundraising and volunteering In his junior year he co chaired his high school s annual philanthropy drive raising 145 000 for early detection pancreatic cancer research Benjy can also be found debating the finer points of foreign policy in Model UN tutoring students in English and Math in his school s Academic Resource Center putting his knowledge of obscure trivia to work in Scholastic Bowl or attempting to be funny when writing articles for his school s satire magazine The Flipside At other times he fulfills his love of cardio and ellipses by running long distance events on the Track team During the summer Benjy has interned at a political campaign and worked as a writer for a healthcare journal where he gained invaluable business
