    for Intelligent Communities and the public sector and private sector partners who contribute to them The awards program has two goals to salute the accomplishments of communities in developing inclusive prosperity on a foundation of information and communications technology and to gather data for ICF s research programs See the event calendar for upcoming dates SEPTEMBER Nominations The process begins with communities filling out the Nominations Form for the Intelligent Community Awards Program There is no cost to submit a nomination for a community Nominations close in September each year OCTOBER The Smart21 In the autumn ICF announces its Smart21 Communities an initial group of honorees that are semi finalists for the Intelligent Community of the Year ICF develops the Smart21 list through independent research and review of nominations submitted by communities based on our Intelligent Community Indicators FEBRUARY The Top7 Intelligent Communities In January at the 2013 Intelligent Community of the Year Taichung City ICF will name seven of the Smart21 to its prestigious list of the Top7 Intelligent Communities of the Year based on analysis of detailed information they provide The Top7 receive media coverage both locally and internationally and become the finalists for ICF s Intelligent Community of the Year award APRIL Intelligent Community Visionary of the Year The Visionary of the Year award is presented to an individual or an organization that has taken a leadership role in promoting broadband technology and applications as an essential utility in the Digital Age The winner must have a proven track record in bringing about cooperation between the public and private sectors and must be recognized by peers as an expert in the field JUNE Intelligent Community of the Year On the closing date of ICF s annual Summit one of the Top7 is named as the Intelligent Community
