    Jacknis Runs Community Accelerator Engagement in Mississippi Published Monday December 14 2015 Norman Jacknis Senior Fellow of the Intelligent Community Forum ran a community accelerator program in Ridgeland Mississippi on December 3 2015 Ridgeland a suburb of Jackson with about 25 000 residents is another older smaller city trying to distinguish itself in this century s economy and enhancing an already high quality of life It is also the second city in Mississippi to commit itself to adopting gigabit service offered by C Spire the regional communications company Dr Jacknis presented the many ways that broadband provides the foundation for economic development learning healthcare even quality of life and tourism He presented both the historical background and principles of economic growth as well as numerous examples of what other communities have done with broadband including some fun and delightful additions to cities that make people want to stay and enjoy themselves Following the presentation the group was asked to do a bit of work Specifically their task was to identify three things that Ridgeland could do with broadband in the next six months that would be of clear value to its residents The workshop attendees included two members of the
