    supplement to the Key Messages contains additional thoughts and analysis on an innovation agenda for transport Available in French and Russian Output Forum Papers Panel Summaries and Conclusions The summaries of the panel discussions and debates at the International Transport Forum 2010 allow you to revisit the arguments exchanged and conclusions drawn Also included are the analytical papers from leading thinkers commissioned for the Forum to stimulate substantive and focused debate More ATTENDEES SURVEY WHAT TRANSPORT S LEADERS THINK If you were at the Forum this year you may have encountered a hosting staff wielding a handheld computer and asking questions about transport and innovation This was the Forum survey team taking the pulse of the transport community assembled in Leipzig Not a full blown scientific field study to be sure but the figures gathered from 169 respondents provide an interesting glimpse at how transport leaders think about their sector The greatest global challenge in transport is Which transport mode most needs innovation 43 per cent of respondents feel that transport is more innovative than other industries although one in four is more sceptical and sees transport lagging Road is seen as the least innovative mode 53 think that way about half as many 27 place rail at the bottom of the list The greatest challenge to transport is seen in reducing emissions and increasing efficiency 65 taken together But reducing congestion and road fatalities are also seen as major challenges Technology is seen as the main driver of innovation 44 while service 28 and regulation 27 are seen as somewhat less important Asked to estimate the market share for electric vehicles in 2020 one in four 25 respondent believes the share wil not reach 5 Yet only slightly fewer respondents 20 see it above 20 by 2020 The relative majority 34 foresees a market share for electric vehicles between 5 and 10 informed guesses to be debated at the 2020 International Transport Forum 2010 AWARDS How to Evacuate a Big City The winner of the International Transport Forum s 2010 Young Researcher of the Year Award is Hossam Abdelgawad of the University of Toronto Canada for his paper on Managing Large Scale Multimodal Emergency Evacuations More Outstanding Innovation in Public Transport Cities from Britain Germany India Spain and Sweden were honoured for innovative ideas in improving public transport The overall winner of this prize awarded by the International Transport Forum and the International Association of Public Transport UITP and was the Consorcio Régional de Transportes de Madrid Spain More PUBLICATIONS Transport Outlook 2010 The Future of Global Transport Growing population increasing urbanisation and higher incomes will boost demand for transport and put great pressure on transport systems around the globe Transport Outlook 2010 the International Transport Forum s annual flagship report launched in Leipzig takes a look at scenarios for the future of global transport Click here to download Reducing Transport Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trends and Data 2010 This International Transport Forum report provides an update of greenhouse gas

the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials AASHTO which advocates policies and provides technology leadership on behalf of States to improve the US transportation system Previously Mr Horsley was nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate as Associate Deputy Secretary of Transportation where he served from 1993 to 1999 as the Department s advocate for intermodal policies quality of life initiatives ad as liaison to State and Local Governments US Congress and transportation constituencies Mr Horsley was elected to five terms as County Commissioner of Cologne where she specialised in Marketing Procurement and Product Policy and Transport Science Geraldine KNATZ Port of Los Angeles Dr Geraldine Knatz is the Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles Overseeing North America s largest gateway for seaborne trade Geraldine Knatz has aggressively advanced the Port of Los Angeles green growth agenda which focuses on clean sustainable port development continuous job creation and long term economic prosperity As 2008 2009 Chair of the American Association of Port Authorities Geraldine played an active role in garnering industry and Federal support for the creation of a North American Emissions Control Area She also is First Vice President Americas region of the International Association of Ports and Harbors IAPH Officers and Executive Committee and Chair of IAPH s World Ports Climate Initiative Dave KNORR US Federal Aviation Administration Mr Knorr is the Liaison to the German Air Navigation Service Provider DFS at the FAA He has worked for the FAA for the last 20 years holding management positions focused on Investment Analysis performance measurement and modelling the operational benefits of new air traffic management technologies He leads a Civil Air Navigation Service Organization CANSO workgroup assessing causes of aviation delay and improvement opportunities through initiatives like NEXTGEN and SESAR While in Europe Mr Knorr has co authored several papers comparing the performance of the US and European air traffic management systems Mr Knorr holds degrees in Mathematics and Operations Research both from Virginia Tech University Horst KÖHLER Federal President Germany Horst Köhler has been President of the Federal Republic of Germany since 2004 He was previously Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund IMF in Washington D C Mr Köhler started his career in 1976 first as Head of the Minister s Office at the German Finance Ministry then as State Secretary and chief negotiator for the Maastricht Treaty on European Monetary Union He acted as the Personal Representative Sherpa of Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl for the World Economic Summits of the then G7 which he Systems Joseph K LAM Delcan Corporation Joseph K Lam is President of Systems Business Canada and International Operations at Delcan Corporation where he directs a group of professionals on numerous innovative ITS projects around the world Mr Lam has been active in the ITS field for 40 years He spent 11 years in the Metropolitan Toronto Traffic Control Centre managing the first computerised signal system in the world He has authored numerous papers and regularly speaks on this subject He was the Chairman of ITS Canada 1997 2009 and Vice President of the Transportation Association of Canada 2001 2009 Mr Lam graduated from St Andrews University in Scotland Dominique LAOUSSE RATP Dominique Laousse M Sc Economics MBA is Director of Prospective and Innovative Design at RATP Paris where he develops projects on smart mobility applied cognitive sciences and urban mobility new economy He is currently a Member of different scientific committees of international networks dedicated to sustainable mobility like INTA Fundación Movilidad and MoVe Mr Laousse is also President of the Mobile Uses and Services Community for Cap Digital cluster dedicated to new Moritz LEUENBERGER Det of the Environment Transport Energy and Communications Switzerland Since his election to the Federal Council on 27 September 1995 Moritz Leuenberger has headed the Federal Department of the Environment Transport Energy and Communications DETEC His main political focus has been on developing sustainable transport and climate policies Between 1972 and 1980 he was President of the city of Zurich s
