    system includes a pressure regulator on each feed in pipe adjusting this to the desired pressure Eco friendly shower heads These shower heads use modern understandings of hydrodynamics to give an excellent showering sensation with efficient use of water There are even shower heads suitable for low pressure piping systems which when using conventional shower heads give an unsatisfactory flow Several models are available on the market with prices ranging from a 5 00 to 45 00 per unit Restrictors and aerators Restrictors are small devices fitted to shower hoses or wash hand basin faucets to reduce excessive flows Models offer different levels of restriction with water flows that typically range from 4 litres per minute to 15 litres per minute Aerators are similar with the added advantage of agitating the water to create more air bubbles in it both restricting and invigorating the flow Prices range from 0 60 to 4 50 per unit Pressure regulation In systems were several showers are fed from a pressure regulated pipe it would be worth examining whether it is possible to install a pressure regulator on the water supply line at each floor that will lead to a uniform 7 litre per

    be a useful guidance to those enterprises seeking to reduce their water consumption concerned about water scarcity in Malta or interested in knowing how national and EU water management and protection legislation could affect industry Session 1 Introducing the project and the conference Opening the conference was Mr George Vella President of the Malta Business Bureau opened the conference and Dr Marie Louise Mangion Head of the Tourism and Sustainable Development Unit at the Ministry of Tourism Culture and the Environment delivered the opening speech The MBB s EU Life Investing in Water project manager Mr Geoffrey Saliba presented an analysis of water consumption data by various local industries This session was chaired by Mr Joe Tanti the Cheif Executive Officer of the Malta Business Bureau Session 2 Water Scarcity and Consumption Malta Manuel Sapiano Hydrologist from the Malta Resources Authority outlined the severity of the water scarcity situation in Malta Water Expert for the EU Life Investing in Water project Ing Marco Cremona presented a detailed analysis of water consumption by various industries locally Mr Tancred Tabone President of the Malta Chamber of Commerce Enterprise and Industry then concluded the session before opening the to discussion This session was chaired by Mr Andrew Aguis Muscat who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association Session 3 Tackling Water Scarcity Mr Sapiano again opened the proceedings by giving a brief over view of the national water policy and legislation Head of the Water Protection Unit at Directorate General Environment at the European Commission Mr Peter Gammeltoft followed up on Mr Sapiano s presentation by explaining EU Water Policy and Legislation Mr Martin Bugelli Head of the European Commission representation in Malta chaired this session Session 4 Case Studies Best practice in water management Ing Joseph Restall

    has extensive experience in communicating as well as managing EU LIFE projects Mr Manuel Sapiano Manuel Sapiano works as a Senior Analyst at the Malta Resources Authority s Regulation Unit He obtained a Masters in Hydrology at the University of Malta and furthered his studies with a fellowship in Isotope Hydrology with the International Atomic Energy Agency At the MRA he is directly involved in the national implementation process of the Water Framework Directive He also coordinates the Authority s participation in a number of EU funded projects in the water sector Moreover he has also collaborated as an expert with various regional and international institutions such as the Plan Bleu and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations Ing Marco Cremona Ing Marco Cremona graduated as a mechanical engineer in 1992 and obtained his Masters Degree in Hydrology and Water Studies in 1997 He has been working in the water sector for 20 years His research projects have achieved widespread international acclaim His water self sufficient home won the France 5 Report Terre award in 2009 as the Best Environment Project in Europe his HOTER sewage to potable water project was a finalist in the prestigious Good Entrepreneur Competition and televised worldwide in December 2009 In 2011 he was nominated and shortlisted for the StockholmWater Prize 2012 which is the equivalent of a Nobel Prize in the water sector Mr Peter Gammeltoft Peter Gammeltoft is Head of the Protection of Water Resources Unit of the European Commission s Directorate General for the Environment Peter has been working in DG Environment for 20 years over half of it were spent on water related issues Mr Gammeltoft s responsibilities include Protection of Fresh Marine and Groundwater Drinking Water Quality and the EU Water Initiative EUWI Peter is Danish and holds an M Sc in Chemical Engineering 1976 Mr Tancred Tabone Tancred Tabone is the President of the the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise and led the organisation through its merger together with the FOI becoming the Malta Chamber of Commerce Enterprise and Industry In his business he is presently Managing Director of Forestals Group of Companies Besides he is a Malta Enterprise Director and sits on MCESD as a Malta Chamber Representative Mr Tabone was also a Director and then Chairman of the Water Services Corporation Ing Joseph Restall Ing Restall is a graduate Mechanical Engineer with 24 years experience in the manufacturing and service industry He has been involved in the field of environmental sustainability since 2005 and notably led Hilton Malta to become the first EU Eco Labelled Hilton Hotel Mr Victor Buhagiar Victor Buhagiar has for the past 11 years been Manager Administration with APS Bank after spending 10 years in Project Management in the Shipbuilding and Construction Industry Mr Buhagiar is responsible for all Infrastructural Developments within Bank and was the Project Manager for the head Office and Operational Centre at Swatar which introduced new concepts in resources conservation of which water was given
