that capsule is still undetermined In the present report they are discussing their transformation of human liver cells into artificial beta cells through genetic engineering which is presently a very risky and difficult process since it uses viral vectors to get the transformative material into the liver cells But the resulting pseudo beta cells which they call Melligan cells can imitate normal beta cell function quite well in controlling blood sugar in rats They are also resistant to proinflammatory cytokines which can penetrate normal encapsulation devices to diminish the effectiveness of beta cells Unfortunately they also tend to proliferate so that even though the initial dosage may be correct to match the blood sugar control requirements of the subject they can gradually start to produce dangerous hypoglycemia They are also tumorogenic so for this reason alone even if they could escape attack by the immune system directed against genuine beta cells they would need to be kept in capsules Researchers speculate that they may also have to develop a special suicide gene to control these tendencies for cell proliferation and the production of tumors In sum they are still only at the mice and rat testing stage so even if

0 1 to 0 2 still negligible because there are so few qualified donors 2 As immunoprotection of the islets is not part of the plan the recipient will require lifelong toxic immunosuppression the risks of which may be greater than the risks of the disease being treated What is needed is a procedure that 1 uses a limitless source of islets pigs for example whose insulin has been used

Device less cell transplant posted by Al Gordon Sounds like Shapiro is using Sernova s IP to venture into his own solution Sernova is using stem cells un limited supply Sernova is also using Sertoli cells to provide immunosuppression naturally
