also be a psychological component Having to obsess over blood sugar testing and results cannot help but affect a person s emotions and it would be easy to express this stress over having to worry about blood sugar outcomes in the sensation that the psychological upset you feel is in fact caused by the fluctuating blood sugar itself Actually it is the cause but only in the sense that you are psychologically stressed by the whole business of strict control and the difficulties of getting the body to cooperate which you then attribute to the various readings you find rather than to your subconscious feelings about the need for intensive blood sugar management Then you imagine that since the problems are supposedly caused by blood sugar variation they can only be addressed by blood sugar control which is a problem also conveniently answered by the one medical testing device available to you a home glucometer of the many that could be applied to study your symptoms Medical history illustrates the same sort of phenomenon that when home barometers first became available suddenly everyone began attributing all sorts of medical problems to changes in air pressure since that was the only

  • Should I pursue an Integrative medical doctor?
I see a psychologist and feels meds may help No one in the diabetic community seems to believe its possible to experience what I am experiencing at the levels I claim What else in gods name could be causing this The only thing I can measure is my glucose and my window I claim to be comfortable is unrealistic even for a non diabetic Being I am forcing myself regularly into hypoglycemia to avoid any elevated levels does explain much of my mood swings but it s the over 80 fasting premeal level that makes no sense at all I have been contemplating an Integrative medical doctor but it could cost me in the thousands with again the very real possibility of no solution I can t help but stress over how frustrating it is knowing that I am experiencing such horrific symptoms and mood swings constantly with the same disease that millions of others have symptom free for the most part It just seems to me that it is the glucose levels but because to my knowledge no one else seems to experience these kind of symptoms regularly I have mixed feelings of whether there is something else involved

  • Insulin as a Cause of Diabetic Complications
a lasting insulin surplus in the patient was long ago associated with higher incidence of diabetic complications and in some experimental animals such as guinea pigs insulin treatment seems to be a primary cause of diabetic complications A recent study has compared the effects of treating type 2 diabetics with insulin versus oral hypoglycemic agents and found significantly worse outcomes in the type 2 diabetics treated with insulin These risks were measured within blood sugar control cohorts to eliminate confounding variables The relative risks of negative effects in a number of areas were measured and the results were as follows Negative Outcome Risk Ratio for Type 2 Diabetics Treated with Insulin Compared to those Not Treated with Insulin Major Cardiac Events 1 736 i e risk 1 736 times higher than for those not using insulin Stroke 1 432 Renal Complications 3 504 Neuropathy 2 146 Eye Complications 1 171 Cancer 1 437 All Cause Mortality 2 197 What is especially interesting about these data is that while the capacity of insulin to increase the risk of macrovascular disease has long been established the fact that it also increases the risk of what have traditionally been thought to be disease
