    under the Small Business Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act a k a the Brownfields Law in January 2002 the goal of Brownfields is to boost local economies by facilitating the redevelopment process IBRP can help with environmental site assessments and clean ups as necessary on properties that have either perceived or actual contamination If a Tribe wants a property assessed under IBRP contact Sheila Sevenstar Horn or Allison Ross via email phone or mail IBRP staff will make arrangements to visit the site with tribal staff After a brief evaluation of the site and discussion with tribal staff of the possible future uses the site will be included on the IBRP Public Record The list of these properties can be accessed through the link on the left IBRP staff will be available to perform a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment a k a All Appropriate Inquiry on the subject property Depending on the results of the Phase I ESA a Phase II assessment may also be performed on the subject property After the assessment stage is completed and the specific contamination is identified tribal staff can make decisions regarding clean up of the site IBRP staff will be available

    Americans their natural resources and their environment Contact Us Login Home ITEC Conference Tribal Environmental Summit RTOC Programs Clean Air Program General Assistance Program GAP Brownfields Response Program IBRP Solid Waste Program Superfund Program Underground Storage Tanks Program USTs Member Tribes Contact Us Find It Solid Waste Program ITEC Subtitle D Program Proper solid waste management on or near Tribal lands is a continuing concern for Tribal environmental departments To assist Tribes in developing sound solid waste management practices ITEC developed the Subtitle D program in fiscal year 1997 The ITEC Subtitle D program has provided the following assistance to ITEC member Tribes during its inception Development of a Tribal illegal dump database and corresponding maps using Global Positioning Systems and Geographical Information Systems instruments and software An ITEC sponsored workshop addressing Tribal solid waste enforcement issues A feasibility study on Tribal disposal methods Technical assistance including illegal dump assessments for use in grant proposals i e Open Dump Cleanup Grant Proposals Distribution of a model Tribal integrated solid waste management plan and model solid waste codes and ordinances Information on environmental initiatives such as Earth Day and America Recycles Day to ITEC member Tribes Coordination with state and federal

  • Superfund Program
    Reauthorization Act SARA amended CERCLA on October 17 1986 After the first six years of the Superfund program SARA was enacted to propel several important changes and additions to the program Among other changes SARA required Superfund actions to consider the standards and requirements found in other State and Federal environmental laws and regulations increased State involvement in every phase of the Superfund program increased the focus on human health problems posed by hazardous waste sites and increased the size of the trust fund to 8 5 billion CERCLA also provides for emergency actions such as the cleanup of sites or chemicals spills which pose an immediate danger to human health In the event that your tribe is impacted by such an emergency situation you should call the U S Environmental Protection Agency National Response Center 24 HOUR EMERGENCY HOTLINE at 1 800 424 8802 The ITEC Superfund Program can provide non emergency evaluation of a site on behalf of an ITEC Member Tribe only if the following three criteria are met 1 Hazardous waste as defined in CERCLA is known or suspected to be present on site 2 The site such as an industrial facility is abandoned or inactive 3 Wastes on the site are impacting or have the potential to impact tribal lands or tribal populations ITEC has evaluated 256 potentially hazardous waste sites under the Superfund Program which could impact member tribes and their lands The sites were located on or near trust lands within tribes jurisdictional boundaries In addition approximately 494 829 has been allocated to the ITEC member tribes for environmental training and site discovery reimbursements ITEC provides technical management assistance to member tribes for the following Superfund sites Tar Creek in Ottawa County Tulsa Fuel Manufacturing near Collinsville Basin Refinery in Okmulgee Hudson Refinery
