    2013 2014 Call for Papers Welcome Developing and deploying market based solutions to our most pressing environmental problems requires rigorous interdisciplinary scholarship It is critical that we encourage young scholars to participate in this process and support their contributions The Journal of Environmental Investing Scholarship Program a public charity under the United States Internal Revenue Code Section 501 c 3 is meant to reward graduate students who write an original rigorous and interdisciplinary work of scholarship in a critical area of environmental investing Interested and qualified students are invited to submit a curriculum vitae an extended abstract of his her manuscript which refers to results and generally describes how the results will be discussed and a letter from his her college or university attesting to the applicant s academic status These documents should be sent to the JEISP at apply jeisp org If an abstract proves acceptable the author will be invited to submit an original manuscript no more than 5 000 words excluding notes references and supporting materials Special consideration will be given to contributions from students in emerging markets as defined by the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank The deadline for applications is currently closed Search

    for a scholarship To be eligible an applicant must be an active graduate student currently enrolled in an accredited college university and seeking an advanced degree in a discipline related to environmental investing e g environmental science environmental policy environmental law finance engineering environmental and sustainability management ecology economics forestry The JEI Scholarship Program seeks to be as inclusive as possible because environmental investing is by its nature an interdisciplinary topic Special consideration will be given to contributions from students in emerging markets as defined by the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank What is the selection process Each applicant must submit a curriculum vitae a 225 word abstract of the manuscript and a letter from his her college or university attesting to the applicant s academic status The Program s Board will review all abstracts If an abstract proves acceptable the author will be invited to submit an original manuscript no more than 5 000 words excluding notes references and supporting materials to the Program The Board will pass all acceptable manuscripts to the Selection Committee which is comprised of scholars and practitioners in the various areas of environmental investing for their review and evaluation The Selection Committee not the Board will select the winner The Board will notify the winner of the Committee s decision and award the winner a cash scholarship How will the manuscripts be judged All manuscripts will be judged according to the following criteria Practical significance of the research Quality of research work with regard to its contribution to the topics of environmental investing Originality of the subject or approach Academic evaluation of research work What is the deadline for submitting an abstract Deadline for applications for the 2014 2015 JEISP has not yet been determined What is the deadline for submitting the manuscript Deadline for manuscripts for the 2014 2015 JEISP has not yet been determined When will the winner be announced The date for the announcement of the 2014 2015 winnerhas not yet been determined Who won the 2010 2011 scholarship The Selection Committee chose Amrita Vijay Kumar as the winner of its first annual scholarship for her paper Challenges and Opportunities Using Carbon Finance to Scale SMEs in West Africa Ms Kumar recently earned an MBA MS from Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise at the University of Michigan She received a USD 3 500 cash scholarship from the JEI SP and had her paper published in a special issue of the Journal of Environmental Investing vol 2 no 2 2011 Who won the 2011 2012 scholarship The Selection Committee awarded the second JEI SP scholarship to Zhan Zhou for his paper Challenges and Opportunities from the Rural Drinking Water Supply in China Mr Zhan s paper demonstrated exceptional insight and rigor in an analysis of drinking water issues and policies in rural China His paper examines investment opportunities and programs sponsored by private companies in cooperation with governments and NGOs and considers their applicability to the over 600 million

    headings please design with the intent of making hierarchy obvious you can also consult the Chicago Manual of Style Spelling Word Usage and Text Styling For points not otherwise covered in these guidelines please use Merriam Webster s Collegiate Dictionary 10th ed and The Chicago Manual of Style 16th ed University of Chicago Press Foreign Abbreviations Spell out e g etc i e et al vs and so forth as their English equivalents In other words use the terms for example and so on that is and others and versus except in citing legal cases where v is used Colloquialisms Contractions and Acronyms Avoid slang and word contractions except when they appear in quotations and in examples containing natural dialogue Resist the use of acronyms and other forms of abbreviation As a general rule an acronym is appropriate only a if it is used frequently in a portion or all of a manuscript or b if the acronym itself has entered common usage in everyday conversation e g USEPA for United States Environmental Protection Agency The first time an accepted acronym is used in your paper spell the term out and place the acronym immediately after it enclosed in parentheses then in its additional appearances use the acronym Quotations and Extracts Quotations and extracts from other works are handled in one of two ways depending on length For a quotation of fewer than 100 words run the quotation into the regular text Enclose it in quotation marks and cite the source in the text for further explanation see in text citations under number 6 on Citations Notes and References If the quotation is a fragment remember to incorporate it grammatically into the surrounding text For a quotation of 100 words or more an extract use a block formation that is set it off from the rest of the text Omit the quotation marks and indent the entire extract and omit the paragraph indentation in the first line Leave an extra line of space above and below the quotation The font size and style should be the same as the body of the manuscript 12 pt Times New Roman Place the citation at the end of the quotation in square brackets not parentheses and place the final punctuation after the closing bracket Authors are strongly encouraged to illustrate their work with tables figures maps and photographs Please identify all illustrations as figures and number consecutively throughout manuscript Figure 1 The Cost for 2010 Figure 2 The Cost for 2011 etc All figures should be referred to within the text For example As Figure 1 illustrates and Global emissions rose in 2009 Figure 5 Figures Authors should submit any figures in electronic form preferably TIF line drawings should be at least 600 ppi halftone or gray scale figures should be at least 300 ppi or EPS with fonts embedded format Color figures must be at least 300 ppi CMYK Provide figure captions together on a separate page Tables in Word or Excel
