  • JEISP : Christine Chan, Ph.D.
    Chan Ph D Founder Chan EC Dr Christine Chan is the founder of Chan Environmental Consulting a private practice that helps develop sustainable strategies for responsible companies Her research and interests include the role of sustainability in creating new markets the effects of global climate change on corporate growth and competition strategies and quantifying sustainability across entire supply chains Dr Chan began her career as a NASA Global Change Fellow in the mid 1990s and has worked in environmental science R D policy and strategic planning ever since Her field work has taken her to the Sea of Japan the Gulf of Mexico the North Atlantic and to the skies over the Florida Everglades where she led the effort to quantify environmental performance within the world s largest water delivery and ecosystem restoration project She has lectured on environmental science and corporate sustainability issues in France US Argentina and Taiwan She received a PhD in Oceanography from the University of Rhode Island an MBA from HEC School of Management in Paris and a BA in Biology from Oberlin College She speaks French and Chinese and serves on the board of directors of the U S Pan Asian American Chamber of

    Point Capital Management a newly created sustainability driven multi strategy investment management boutique with offices in London New York Chicago Toronto and Sydney Previously he had been founder and Chief Executive of Innovest Strategic Value Advisors a firm he established in 1992 which was rated as the 1 research firm in the world in its field Immediately prior to founding Innovest Dr Kiernan had served as Director of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development in Geneva and as a senior advisor to the Secretary General of the U N Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 Prior to that he had served as a senior partner at KPMG Dr Kiernan also lectured on sustainable finance and investment in executive programs at the Wharton School Columbia Business School Stanford Business School Yale School of Management Oxford University the Schulich School and the London Business School He is currently on the guest faculty of HRH the Prince of Wales s programme for sustainability leadership at Cambridge University Dr Kiernan holds advanced degrees in political science and environmental studies as well as a Ph D in strategic management from the University of London His new book Investing in a Sustainable World

    Ph D CFA Alex Rau is a founding partner of Climate Wedge Ltd an independent firm providing carbon finance and emissions trading related advisory and asset management services and pursuing principal investments and project development in the carbon markets Alex has a decade of experience in carbon finance emissions trading and environmental commodities and has acted as a principal and or advisor on transactions exceeding 50 million metric tons of CO2eq reductions He cofounded US carbon developer EOS Climate and was previously part of the Climate Change Services team in PricewaterhouseCoopers s Energy Corporate Finance practice in London developing and structuring portfolios of carbon assets during the early stages of the Clean Development Mechanism market as well as designing Kyoto response strategies for multinational corporations Alex has worked with numerous clients such as Cheyne Capital McKinsey Company Rio Tinto News Corporation Electricite de France the California Public Employees Retirement System CalPERS and CSIRO on carbon related issues He also co authored the original version of the Voluntary Carbon Standard the most widely accepted trading standard for non Kyoto carbon assets and has published in journals ranging from Science to the Harvard Business Review Alex has a Ph D in physics

    areas included under Steve s scope of responsibility were asset and risk management pension products wealth management institutional sales educations savings mutual funds relationship management insurance and call center services among other business units Steven joined TIAA CREF in 2005 during which time he successfully led the efforts to change the relationship management model to a sales culture and focus He managed the design and implementation of the sales incentive compensation plan changing the business development approach for all client facing sale associates He was also very instrumental in removing business unit barriers improving partnership that led to higher client net promoter scores Before joining TIAA CREF in 2005 Steve was Head of Human Resources for the YMCA of the USA Worldwide Operations This role focused on the strategic priorities for all international human resources functions He also worked for Charles Schwab and Company Inc for several years holding multiple leadership roles with a business partnership focus in both their domestic and international retail enterprises During his time at Charles Schwab Steve was responsible for building a human resources support function to support a nationwide financial branch network of 435 retail branch offices Steve also held senior roles at the

    and Editor of Journal of Environmental Investing The Journal of Environmental Investing Scholarship Program offers a modest but important opportunity to students seeking advanced degrees to think critically and provide original influential scholarship on a topic related to environmental investing We re not asking students to submit new investment ideas or business plans instead we re asking them to contribute to our understanding of how to advance the discourse on environmental investing for the 21 st century through rigorous scholarship Please note that the paper should focus on the environment and investing and not on the scientific issue of climate change The JEI SP has created a Selection Committee which is comprised of scholars and practitioners in the various areas of environmental investing that will vet the submissions and pick the winning manuscript Dr Alex Rau CFA Principal at Climate Wedge Ltd and Selection Committee member sees the Journal of Environmental Investing Scholarship Program as a unique initiative that will play a critical role in promoting thought leadership and original research The Program hopes to encourage and recognize the contributions of students who will be the future practitioners of the environmental investing field Interested and qualified students are invited to submit a curriculum vita a 225 word abstract of his her manuscript and a letter from his her college or university attesting to the applicant s academic status These documents should be sent to the JEI SP at apply jeisp org If an abstract proves acceptable the author will be invited to submit an original manuscript no more than 5 000 words excluding notes references and supporting materials Deadline for applications is January 28 2011 The Program expects to announce the winner by July 15 2011 Details can be found at www jeisp org and on Facebook Twitter and Linkedin
