    water entering the property and one for wastewater leaving the property The City of Kenosha Code of General Ordinances Chapter 32 Rules 06 04 07 04 and 07 05 explains the property owner s responsibility as well as the water utility s responsibility regarding repairs made to the lateral connecting a property to the water or sanitary main Responsibility for the water service line is outlined in Rule 06 04 The property owner is responsible for the installation maintenance and any necessary repairs to or replacement of the water service pipe and all appurtenances and connections from within the building to the curb stop except for the water meter and meter horn The curb stop is a shut off valve located at the connection point between the Water Utility s water service and the property owner s water service Responsibility for the sanitary service line is explained in Rule 07 05 and Rule 07 04 The property owner is responsible for the installation maintenance cleaning repair and replace ment of the entire sanitary sewer lateral from the building to the Water Utility s sanitary sewer located in an easement or in the public right of way It is important that every property owner is aware of their responsibility when it comes to the pipes connecting them to the Water Utility s water and sanitary mains However it is also important to take into account that repairs that fall under the property owner s responsibility do not occur very often In fact out of 29 632 total service connections throughout the city there is an average of about a dozen repairs each year that fall under the responsibility of the property owner Before you consider purchasing an optional insurance policy from a third party provider we suggest that you contact your
