    Library is closed on public holidays for 10 days at Christmas beginning on Christmas Eve for ten days at Easter beginning on Good Friday and exceptionally at other times Obtaining a ticket Access to the Library s collections is freely available to the public and appointments are not necessary However on their first visit users must obtain a library ticket Tickets are valid for two years and allow access to all classes of material with the exception of some restricted material In order to be issued with a ticket readers should bring the following one piece of photo ID and one proof of address Church of England clergy with entry in the current Crockford s Clerical Directory do not need to bring evidence of address Readers should present one piece of ID from each of the following lists Photo ID Passport Driving licence Police Customs Home Office Warrant Card Forces ID card Expired Lambeth Palace Library card Proof of address Recent less than 3 months old Utility Bill Gas Electricity Telephone Water Bank Building Society Statement no online bank branch print offs Credit Card Statement Council Tax Bill Council Rent Book Br State Pension Book Benefit Family Credit Book Passports

    The Garrick Club with a talk on the history of Wartski the West End jewellers on Friday 8 April there will be a tour of the Spitalfields area on Tuesday 28 June and a visit to the Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge on Wednesday 7 September We are also hoping to arrange a concert to take place in aid of the Friends Unfortunately the delayed visit to St Paul s will have to be postploned once more probably to September 2017 as major work is being carried out which will entail the closure of many facilities Also in 2017 we hope to visit the Temple Church and Inner Temple Library the Chelsea Physic Garden and Library and possibly the Westminster City Archives We should be grateful if you would contact the Events Secretary in good time if you are interested in any of these events Details concerning visits are attached to the right Please be patient attachments can be slow to load The Friends Christmas reception took place in the Great Hall of Lambeth Palace on Thursday 3 December from 6pm 8pm The cost included mulled wine and mince pies Friends and their guests were able to view the newly refurbished Great Hall and the Broughton Missal the Friends major acquisition of this year All are welcome to the following lectures to be held in Lambeth Palace Library in 2016 Tuesday 9 February 5 15pm Meretricious musick and tossing of tennis balles why did the Puritans find it so hard to argue their case at the Hampton Court Conference in 1604 by Dr Mark Byford A special meeting of the University of London seminar on The Religious History of Britain 1500 1800 followed by a drinks reception in honour of the late Brett Usher Tuesday 1 March 5 30pm A projected new history of the Bodleian Library by Richard Ovenden Bodley s Librarian A special meeting of the University of London research seminar in the History of Libraries Thursday 21 April 6pm The Great Hall at Lambeth Palace its history and refurbishment by Simon Ablett Consultant Architect to Lambeth Palace followed by an opportunity to see engraved views of the Geat Hall and other related material from the Library collections Details for those wishing to attend are attached to the right Lectures to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Friends have already taken place in the Guard Room Fifty years of collecting by the Friends a personal choice by Giles Mandelbrote the Librarian Friends acquisitions and the Archbishops of Canterbury by archivist Matti Watto Painters limners writers and bookbinders Matthew Parker s printed books by William Hale Rare Books Specialist Cambridge University Library and King John and Magna Carta New Discoveries from Lambeth Palace Library by Nicholas Vincent The discovery of a new letter from the rebel barons on 1215 recently reported in the national press reminded us quite how much the archives and manuscripts of Lambeth Palace Library offer to historians of the reign of King John Much

  • ChurchCare Library | LAMBETH PALACE LIBRARY
    the Cathedrals and Church Buildings Division is a further collection within the central church bodies alongside Lambeth Palace Library and the Church of England Record Centre and is located at Church House Westminster The Library houses books and other material dedicated solely to ecclesiastical architecture art design and liturgy and is a unique research tool for readers interested in those areas As well as over 13 000 books mostly 19 th and 20 th century the collection includes copies of the records of the contents of over 1 500 individual churches compiled by the NADFAS Church Recorders archival material including notebooks and papers of Canon Clarke and of Gordon Barnes and extensive photographic collections The Division also holds detailed files on 16 000 parish churches many containing guidebooks postcards and photographs the ChurchCare Library should be the first port of call for access to these but please note that they are stored offsite The majority of the material held here is not searchable online There is a card catalogue in the Library for printed books and there are some finding aids for archival and image collections Some printed books are now findable through Lambeth Palace Library s online printed books
