homework for their children More homework is rarely the appropriate prescription for young learners When a student is experiencing challenges at school the best solution is to engage in practice one on one with a patient adult Such students need immediate feedback about their progress and opportunities to feel successful When a student is doing well he or she needs opportunities to have experiences that enhance learning to build background knowledge and to have fun This is also true for students who are struggling In light of this information about what children need I recommend that parents use the extra time they have with their children to go to museums play games have conversations read a popular book together cook create and explore Discussing experiences helps children to build their vocabularies to make sense of the world to build their confidence and to support their learning in school Category Education and Learning Planet Parenthood Tags S P E L L I N G It Out Please and Thank You Leave a Reply Cancel reply Connect with Your email address will not be published Required fields are marked Comment Name Email Website Spam protection Sum of 5 7 Like what you

  • Prima Donna? |
is an outbreak of prima donna syndrome Krotz 2004 What is this you may ask It occurs when highly talented people think that they are so special that the normal rules of conduct don t apply to them They feel that they can lie cheat steal and just generally be unpleasant to be around simply because they are good at what they do The problem is that people want to work with those who are both good at what they do and nice The combination of competence and character is the holy grail for good employees Nobody wants to spend 8 10 hours a day with a jerk no matter how good he she is at the job But if you re the sweetest person in the world and still can t get the job done that won t work either Let s all strive to be good inside in our moral fiber and out in our performance Category Professional Development Resources Relationship Development Tags Character Sow and Reap Starting a Children s Library at Home Leave a Reply Cancel reply Connect with Your email address will not be published Required fields are marked Comment Name Email Website Spam protection

the law says regarding a particular action When you realize that you ve been driving the wrong direction do you pop a u turn and hope for the best or do you check for the appropriate signage every time At work do multiple users share software for which your organization only has one license At times knowing much less following the law can be more complicated than it seems on the surface but researching the legal ramifications of your actions before engaging in them can save a great deal of time and trouble after the fact Next is it balanced or fair How would you feel if someone did what you are about to do to you The Golden Rule still stands true do unto others what you would have them do unto you Someone relayed a story to me about her manager at a women s clothing store The manager told the staff to target older women customers and try to sell them expensive clothes they didn t need because they were too old to know better and it would be an easy way to make more money What a horrible thing to say How would you feel if someone treated your grandmother that way Along with the Golden Rule comes the law of reciprocity you reap what you sow It is better to treat people fairly and have fair treatment come back to you When unjust actions go around they come back around again And payback is usually worse than the initial payment Finally how will it make you feel about yourself What happens in secret often comes to the light If news of the thing you are about to do went viral with internet television radio and print coverage how would you feel How would you feel

  • Working As A Team |
under budget Or are you the person who makes sure that people are getting along that everyone s needs are met and that teammates have such a good time that they would want to work together again Teams need both kinds of roles to be fulfilled It is often easy to see these roles played out in organizations especially in the work place But what about your personal relationships Are you the person who smooths things over or are you the person who makes sure everyone arrives at the movies on time because who wants to miss the opening credits while you re still in line for popcorn right So that last comment was a bit of a joke but you get my point In work and at home look for the balance in these two roles so that tasks and relationships are both fulfilling and fulfilled Category Professional Development Resources Work Life Balance Tips Tags Children and Television A Review of Into the Minds of Babes How Screen Time Affects Children from Birth to Age Five by Lisa Guernsey Relationship Space Why Women Can Love the Man Cave Leave a Reply Cancel reply Connect with Your email address will

asked your direct report to complete a task instead of commanding him her to do it He She might actually perform better and maintain a more positive relationship with you For some people the simple practices of etiquette are well simple For others it can be difficult under pressure deadlines stress and exhaustion to remember to be kind to the people in their lives At work sometimes people are on their best behavior because they know that incivility can cause a direct problem with their ability to get work done with their colleagues At home do you practice the same graciousness you extend to the general public I ve heard people say that they don t have to be nice to their family because family members aren t going anywhere The thing is sometimes family members do leave maybe not physically but in the form of strained relationships or unresolved tension The next time you feel yourself taking out your internal stress on the people around you remember to take a breath stay calm and say please and thank you It s just nice to be nice Category Relationship Development Tags Maximizing the Opportunity to Learn II Celebrating Fatherhood The

  • Celebrate! |
it is to mark these occasions in our lives Unless you are a performer not many times in your day to day life do people call your name publicly and cheer your accomplishments When we think of the love and support we receive all year long it is apropos to set aside time to show our appreciation and gratitude When we remember the sacrifice of others and their acts of selfless heroics it is appropriate to pause to remember their benevolence And when we complete an achievement even if it is simply surviving another year it is fitting that we should celebrate Sometimes life feels like one challenge after another After we ve met the challenge and overcome it and sometimes while we re in the middle of facing it there is value in drawing our attention to the things that bring hope and give life meaning Focusing on the joys in life can give us the strength we need to keep pressing forward Let s all celebrate Category Relationship Development Tags Priorities What Who and When S P E L L I N G It Out Leave a Reply Cancel reply Connect with Your email address will not be

  • Relationship Space: Why Women Can Love the “Man Cave” |
you say Christmas in April All kidding aside the man cave is a concept probably borne of two things 1 the male s reluctance to fully accept domestication and 2 the desire to preserve some balance in the relationship through a healthy level of independent activity But I find value in Cohen s review because it also presents the opportunity to highlight two points about relationships First the individualism that precedes a relationship does not lose its value during the relationship and second that finding mutually agreeable ways to support one another s individualism can really help the relationship It s not that a man or woman needs to have a fully furnished pad at the ready we don t The only thing that makes this concept novel is its location and that it is being funded by a group of friends Let us remember that the guys golf trips girls spa days poker nights or the girls night out have long served similar purposes The point is that the concept emphasizes the fact that everyone can use a space and time to detach and debrief especially if it helps them better appreciate their relationship when together NOTE This cannot be done by unilateral decision with the expectation that all will be well So I applaud Cohen s emphasis on the mutual consent of the activity whatever it is That is how relationships are suppose to work and it s the only way they last So find your man or woman cave enjoy your time apart and your time together even more Category Relationship Development Tags Working As A Team Save You Money Leave a Reply Cancel reply Connect with Your email address will not be published Required fields are marked Comment Name Email Website Spam protection Sum of 3
