  • Coping with Stress |
slowly out from your mouth Repeat this process several times focusing only on your slow steady breaths On your exhales visualize your muscles relaxing and the tension leaving your body Try setting aside at least five minutes of time when you know you can relax in a quiet and comfortable space to practice visualizations Close your eyes relax your breathing and begin to picture your own personal oasis Place yourself in this oasis Develop your surroundings using all five senses If you are on a beach focus on how the sand feels under your feet Is it warm wet and soft Can you hear the waves lapping up against the shore or feel the cool wind Can you smell the salt water or the fresh air after a rainstorm The more you practice your visualization the easier it will be to summon it when you need it most Practice progressive muscle relaxation Begin in a comfortable position either lying down or with your feet flat on the ground Starting at your feet begin to slowly tense your toes and then slowly relax them Repeat this process of tensing and relaxing your toes three times Move to your whole foot next and repeat the tensing and relaxing pattern again for three times Slowly move up your body stopping at each location that you are able to tense Consider keeping a stress journal to help you identify the regular stressors in your life and the way you deal with them Each time you feel stressed keep track of it in your journal As you keep a daily log you will begin to see patterns and common themes Make sure to track what caused the stress how you felt physically and emotionally how you responded what you did to make yourself feel better Go to sleep Your body rejuvenates during sleeping hours making you healthier and more equipped to start a new day Consider keeping your bed and bedroom an intimacy and sleep sanctuary If you have trouble sleeping try eliminating everything you do in your bed other than sleep and sex Things like watching television or reading can impede upon your sleep cycle Teach your body that when you enter your bed it is time to sleep Exercise When we exercise our bodies release endorphins that create a natural high Exercise helps regulate sleep decrease tension decrease depression and increase your immune system If you don t feel like hitting the gym try yoga to help stretch your muscles and improve your breathing Simple stretches can also benefit your body since many people experience stress in their bodies Try taking a few moments during the day to roll your head stretch your neck muscles roll your shoulders and stretch your body At night pick a few simple stretches that you enjoy doing and try to do them every night before going to bed to start unwinding and prepare your body for rest More than just walking the dog animals have therapeutic influences

  • The Checklist |
the list and instead write down a shorthand version of what needs to be done Every time we look at the list we start to think about all the other things that go along with each written action item and we can start to feel stressed This stress can be alleviated by making lists complete and organizing them by the situation we need to be in for the task to be completed Lists are scary when they make us feel even more out of control than we already do This is because our list often does not include the specific action items we need to do Writing specific steps will help to solve this problem Finally lists are disappointing when we don t finish everything in the time allotted Allen recommends putting on the calendar the things that can only be done that day and putting everything else on as soon as I can get to them lists That way we don t feel guilty if those things don t get done today Category Stress Reduction Work Life Balance Tips Tags Celebrating Fatherhood The Sweetest Moments Character Sow and Reap Leave a Reply Cancel reply Connect with Your email address

  • Less Is More |
the face of relentless advertising a wife to please or puppy dog eyes of a child broke down way too many times And now we all realize it as we have to clean repair or move this stuff I hate moving Even when we come to our senses and jettison bags full of this stuff to the local shelters and donation drop offs the moment is short due to the realization that it didn t make a real dent at all That s because we still kept too many things claiming some notion of the sentimentality of what remains What s worse The fact that somehow those same things surprisingly lose their sentimentalism too soon after that thought A rap artist aptly entitled his song Mo Money Mo Problems but the song could have just as appropriately been Mo Stuff Mo Problems because after all the money wouldn t be the problem if we were giving more and accumulating less right Aside from the material things do you clutter your relationships with stuff Accumulating unhealthy characteristics or engaging in destructive behaviors in order to perpetrate some false self image I can tell you our youth do it if for no other reason than to fit in somewhere And how do you think they get that idea We model it for them every day But less is more Just think the less time we spend trying to be somebody else the more time we have to perfect who we actually are We ve got to simplify our personal lives Why you say Have you ever seen an episode of that television show Hoarders Well you know the lives we live in our hearts and minds can get like that too if we let it stockpiling grudges resentments regrets failures loss hurts

  • A Resolution |
them at all Tradition Guilt Ambition A dare Hope Doesn t matter does it The issue is finding out how to actually see them through The first step is NOT to be discouraged Step two don t give up And step three is to reassess your resolution See for a lot of people the problem is that the resolution is too lofty or too far off to claim victory With the best of intentions we commit ourselves to a long term project with no evidence that we have been able to consistently keep even our day to day commitments Anybody still having a problem with that snooze button So where do we go from here Well if you can actually get started you ve accomplished a lot That motivational first step is usually the most difficult After that try shrinking your goal not ultimately but incrementally There is no disadvantage to taking smaller steps as long as you keep taking them And isn t that the point I m convinced that we fail miserably at these resolutions because we get so caught up in the emotion of the declaration we forget that the strategy is just as important Rome wasn t built in a day and getting that new look or to stop smoking drinking or going from changing negative to positive isn t going to happen overnight But if you commit for a minute an hour a day a meal a lap you might be surprised at how motivating the accomplishment of that small step will be As they say one small step can make for one giant leap Now resolve to do something today and do it If you are facing challenges that cannot be overcome alone Learning Dynamics Inc is here to help Let us help you

  • Priorities: What, Who, and When? |
are no right answers and then tell them the answers proposed by the book I was reminded of this story recently because I was trying to answer one of these very questions myself When is the best time to do things I asked myself this question because I am struggling with time management as a mother of two Naps create the biggest but not the only problem My youngest will take two naps for several more months He takes a nap from about 10am noon and again from about 2pm 4pm My older son takes a nap from 12 30pm 2 30pm This means that there is very little time during the day when they are both sleeping The result is that I don t get to nap I have to do my work in the middle of the night and find it difficult to manage my domestic responsibilities Sometimes I find myself thinking about all the imaginary women who are able to do it all and do it all well and I wish I were one of them I am not one of them but Jon J Muth s answer to the question When is the best time to do things applies to this situation as well as it does to the philosophical scenario presented in the story His answer was NOW The best days are the days when I do what I am able to do when I am able to do it This requires me to have clear priorities to know that when my children are awake it is important that they are safe fed and loved Once those needs have been met I consider whether or not I have time for all of the other items on my list of things to do Some days I
