the transplant list and in August 2004 I got really sick and needed blood transfusions I was in and out of emergency rooms and hospitals for days going downhill quickly At the end of January 2005 I went into the hospital and stayed there until March I was No 1 on the West Tennessee liver transplant list for the entire month of February The doctors sent me home for a week starting March 1 and finally on March 7 a liver became available I had my transplant on March 8 2005 It took me about a year to recover Between August 2004 and August 2005 I needed 121 units of blood and a dozen units of platelets to survive Luckily for me the blood supply was available thanks to Lifeblood s generous donors I can t begin to express my gratitude In an attempt to pay back the life that was given me I started donating blood again in 2008 I give every time I m eligible and I ve donated a total of 7 gallons of blood in my lifetime The thing is you never know when you re going to need blood but let me tell you you

check up in April of 1997 it was discovered that either the Cancer had come back or they didn t get it all the first time This time the Surgeon said they got it all because they took out my Rectum and proceeded to give me a Colostomy The following day I started loosing blood internally I was very lucky my wife called the Dr and they transfused 9 pints of blood Seeing as how our body only holds 9 to 12 pints I feel like I received a complete oil change I continued my Radiation Chemo treatments for 5 more years Became Cancer free and continued to donate blood striving for my goal of 20 gallons Not to be because in the summer of 2005 I had a persistent cough of which I waited for 6 months before I went to see my Dr he just shook his head and sent me to a Pulmonologist who gave me a Chest X ray and diagnosed me with stage 4 inoperable Lung Cancer Frequently Stage 4 Lung Cancer is a death sentence 6 months to 2 years I truly have been and am being blessed as it as been 4 5
