  • Lizard's Weblog » Radtke Critical of Bill Bolling Remarks
for economic development if Mr Bolling fails to repudiate his statements The State Central Committee of the Republican Party of Virginia will be meeting at the Republican Advance today November 30th at the Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach To see Jamie s full letter to State Central Committee members see below Jamie Radtke Dear Members of State Central Committee I humbly request your consideration to adopt a resolution calling on Lt Governor Bill Bolling to repudiate his unfortunate statements made earlier this week about the character and electability of Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli as Governor The Committee should resolve further that Governor Bob McDonnell should withdraw his delegation of responsibility to Mr Bolling for economic development Chief Jobs Creator if Mr Bolling fails to repudiate his statements Mr Bolling s voting record and public positions vary little from those of Mr Cuccinelli Mr Bolling s personal criticisms of Mr Cuccinelli are groundless and would be just as offensive and outrageous if directed at a Democrat Mr Bolling has further stated to the media that he will refuse to support Mr Cuccinelli as the Republican nominee for Governor at the conclusion of our Republican Convention in May which is in direct violation of our Republican Party Plan Conservatives have consistently demonstrated a willingness to abide by the process outlined in the Party Plan The expectation should be no different with our elected officials Thank you for your time and consideration of this important proposal that will reaffirm our support and dedication to represent the Republican grassroots of Virginia Family obligations will prevent me from being at your business meeting Friday afternoon but I will be in attendance at the Republican Advance later in the day and Saturday All my best Bill Bolling has no intention of endorsing Cuccinelli Bolling will not

our taxes but once this one is in place it will rise every year all by itself I can t think of another tax with a feature like this It s described as being like a sales tax percentage of sales but it is much different because sales taxes are based on what each person voluntarily chooses to spend not how much some government bureaucrat decides to spend from the treasury Which brings me to the most insidious feature of this proposal the basis of increases using the PPI Other nonresidential category Leave aside for a moment the accuracy of DOL s modelling and the relatively short history of this index it is less than 2 years old I will leave those arguments to statisticians and assume that this index is an accurate assessment of costs in the market The problem is the market itself In basic economics we assume that prices rise and fall based on supply and demand But the market measured in this index is vanishingly small 13 states currently use the index to adjust their fuel taxes and Virginia is only one of the remaining states considering the proposal The consumers in the market are exclusively governments and the producers are exclusively government contractors often organized using groups like the VTCA So now we have a feedback loop that starts to eliminate downward pressure on prices And in a closed market such as this when consumers are provided exactly the amount of funding required for their purchases we get an ever spiraling increase in costs all borne by taxpayers with no recourse except pressuring legislators to take action in repealing a tax And with powerful lobby groups like the VTCA and the Richmond Regional Planning District Commission opposing such a reversal it is unlikely to happen The General Assembly meets every year and can raise gas taxes each time they meet If they need to raise gas taxes do it as needed Don t allow them to pass a law that will raise taxes in perpetuity and without limit Update I ve changed the link for Olympia Meola to point to her Twitter profile It seems she is no longer on staff at the Richmond Times Dispatch and is now working for the rent seeking elites that keep the public education system overpriced and underperforming That is it seems to be a drinking club of executives helping to implement Common Core Posted in Politics Comments 0 April 2nd 2012 Rand Paul Bob McDonnell and the NDAA Reauthorization law Rand Paul wrote a letter to Governor Bob McDonnell urging him to sign HR 1160 which nullifies the indefinite detention provisions included in the most recent NDAA reauthorization bill signed by President Obama on New Year s Eve 2011 McDonnell has so far not taken action on the bill which passed the Virginia General Assembly with virtually no opposition I get the impression that McDonnell s political bedmates are supportive of this Federal power for detaining US Citizens

  • Lizard's Weblog » McDonnell’s New Gas Tax
costs There are several serious issues with this idea As I mentioned there is already a new toll going up on I 95 and there are existing ones on the Chesapeake Expressway the Richmond Powhite and Downtown expressways the Pocahontas Parkway and the Dulles Toll Road Will these tolls go away with the ever increasing gas tax Not likely The I 95 toll was proposed as a way to avoid increasing the fuel tax but McDonnell is coming back this year looking for that money too As usual the politicians on the hill want to have their cake and eat yours too Another major problem with this proposal is that it means legislators get to impose regressive tax increases every year and never have to take responsibility for doing it We like to hold our representatives responsible when they raise our taxes but once this one is in place it will rise every year all by itself I can t think of another tax with a feature like this It s described as being like a sales tax percentage of sales but it is much different because sales taxes are based on what each person voluntarily chooses to spend not how much some government bureaucrat decides to spend from the treasury Which brings me to the most insidious feature of this proposal the basis of increases using the PPI Other nonresidential category Leave aside for a moment the accuracy of DOL s modelling and the relatively short history of this index it is less than 2 years old I will leave those arguments to statisticians and assume that this index is an accurate assessment of costs in the market The problem is the market itself In basic economics we assume that prices rise and fall based on supply and demand
