    Forestry Project Design Workshop with the Klamath Tribal Restoration Crew October 2012 Click here for more photos A recent ecological forestry project design workshop was hosted by the Klamath Tribes and Lomakatsi to train Klamath Tribal restoration crew members and Lomakatsi staff as part of the Black Hills Stewardship Agreement Partners include Lomakatsi the Klamath Tribes The Nature Conservancy and the U S Forest Service The first project under the agreement is designed to restore ponderosa pine habitat and structural diversity through thinning and prescribed fire on just under 10 000 acres on the Fremont Winema National Forest which is formerly the Klamath Tribes reservation forestland Tribal members are being trained in the ecological forestry principles of forest ecologists Dr Norm Johnson and Dr Jerry Franklin who wrote the Klamath Tribes Reservation Forest Restoration Plan Previous Workshop May 2012 A crew from The Klamath Tribes the Klamath Forest Warriors listening to Lomakatsi Director Marko Bey describe variable density tree marking in ponderosa pine stands on lands within their traditional tribal territory For more info on this crew from the Klamath Tribes see this article in the Ashland Daily Tidings May 26 2011 Bringing balance to nature Klamath Tribal members hope
