    Education Symposium 2014 Traditional Ecological Knowledge links Search for Staff Alicia read more Alicia Fitzgerald Outreach and Communications Manager As Program Associate Alicia is an integral member of Lomakatsi s Community Outreach and Education Program managing outreach and communication through media social networks and community engagement She assists in coordinating Lomakatsi s various community volunteer and education opportunities and performs hands on environmental education instruction In addition Alicia works closely with Lomakatsi s staff to accomplish administrative developmental and programmatic tasks For example she provides administrative support for Lomakatsi s financial department She also assists in the management of fundraising and membership programs and in grant research and writing Since graduating from the University of California Santa Cruz with degrees in Environmental Studies and in Ecology Evolutionary Biology Alicia has gained an array of experience in the environmental field in Northern California and Southern Oregon Working for various non profits as well as the National Park Service and the City of Ashland she has performed extensive monitoring in the field as well as comprehensive community engagement about an array of restoration and conservation initiatives Through her most recent position as the Ashland Forest Resiliency Stewardship Project Assistant Alicia broadened her

    John worked for Lomakatsi from 2004 through 2008 as a seasonal restoration worker and crew member conducting labor intensive activities including forest thinning prescribed burning riparian planting and noxious weed abatement He made advancements on the Lomakatsi workforce to the position of Lead Sawyer John and his family moved to Montana for several years but returned to southern Oregon in 2012 to begin a full time position with Lomakatsi as the Lead Forestry Technician In this role John was responsible for managing technical forestry personnel in conducting project design and layout data collection and field inventory and implementation monitoring In February of 2013 John was hired as the Workforce Operations Manager for Lomakatsi John s restoration experience began as a Volunteer in Parks with an organization called Stewards of Slavianka in Sonoma County California He was involved primarily with back country planting projects but also worked on dune stabilization and upkeep of the native greenhouse in Armstrong Redwood State Reserve In 2002 John completed his bachelor s degree from Sonoma State University in Environmental Studies with emphasis in Conservation and Restoration and a minor in Biology While in college he started working as a Restoration Technician with a non profit called Circuit Riders He also worked as an independent contractor in conjunction with Northwest Data Collections performing post fire regeneration surveys for the U S Forest Service in the Idaho City Ranger District Additional experience included working with High Country Forestry as a timber marker helping implement a thinning from below prescription in the Klamath National Forest He also worked as a Fire Ecology Research Assistant through Oregon State University and collected much of the data that was published in the Forest Ecology and Management journal in an article entitled Fire Exclusion Effects on Riparian Forest Dynamics in Southwestern Oregon

    Knowledge links Search for Staff Braullio read more Braullio Cortes Lead Restoration Crew Manager Braullio Cortes has worked for Lomakatsi since 2004 In his current role with the organization he serves as the Lead Restoration Crew Manager in which he oversees all on the ground workforce personnel operations For five years prior to being promoted to Lead Restoration Crew Manager Braullio worked on Lomakatsi s core forest thinning crew His work experience before coming to Lomakatsi entailed reforestation forestry and wildland fire management for four years primarily in the Pacific Northwest as well as across multiple western states working for private forestry contractors on federal state and industry timber lands Braullio s present primary responsibilities include directing forest restoration crew members in ecological thinning slash treatments prescribed burning tree planting and other re vegetation projects The majority of Braullio s work is performed in the field working directly with and managing the daily activities of a 20 person multi cultural workforce consisting of predominantly Latino workers Braullio serves as Lomakatsi s cross cultural workforce liaison engaging Latino Native American and Euro American workers utilizing not only his years of forestry and restoration implementation experience but also his Spanish English bi
