    and challenges associated with capturing and appropriately leveraging more and more diverse data sources to improve population and individual health and health care more broadly She has focused in particular on information management and governance policies Rein is experienced in managing and coordinating state level quality improvement technical assistance programs and also directs a project under the AcademyHealth international portfolio that aims to understand the ways in which a select number of industrialized nations have encouraged use of HIT HIE to support clinical care and population health objectives Prior to joining AcademyHealth Rein was assistant director of food and health policy at the National Consumers League NCL She holds a master s degree in public policy analysis from the University of Rochester Rein contributed to the Markle Common Framework for Networked Personal Health Information Alfred Spector PhD Alfred Spector PhD is Vice President of Research and Special Initiatives at Google which he joined in 2007 He is responsible for research across Google and also a growing collection of special initiatives such as open source health university relations and more Recently he has assumed the executive engineering leadership for google org an effort that uses Google s strengths in information and technology to build products and advocate for policies that address global challenges He speaks widely on research and innovation and spends much time helping Google connect to the university research community Previously Spector was vice president of strategy and technology IBM s Software Business Prior to that he was vice president of services and software research across IBM He was also founder and CEO of Transarc Corporation a pioneer in distributed transaction processing and wide area file systems and was an associate professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University specializing in highly reliable highly scalable distributed computing Spector received his PhD in computer science from Stanford and a bachelor s degree in applied mathematics from Harvard He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of American Academy of Arts and Sciences the IEEE and the ACM He is also the recipient of the 2001 IEEE Computer Society s Tsutomu Kanai Award for work in scalable architectures and distributed systems Alan Dowling MD PhD Alan Dowling MD PhD has a career spanning over 35 years in various phases of health informatics His background includes global leadership experience in corporate and nonprofit organizations extensive strategic and governance expertise and health care delivery research and academic experience Since 2000 Dowling has been President of Global Health Associates LLC providing executive and board consultation on information systems and technology transfer and adoption in the U S and internationally His academic career includes teaching at Case Western Reserve University since 1981 He has been a lecturer or invited speaker at various institutes of higher learning including Yale University Cornell University University of Pennsylvania Massachusetts Institute of Technology University of Delaware Georgetown University Ohio State University Michigan State University University of Missouri Harvard University Georgia Institute of Technology George Washington
