in WV but the state was known for a lot of guerilla action The locals formed together and called themselves the Homeguard They were neither Confederate or Union but just wanted to maintain the Kanawha Valley and River and from raid rob and pillage James Rogers was an heir to 1000 acres of land granted by the Gov ner in the early 1800 s He was a highly respected citizen of the community Duirng these times of rebellion James and his neighbor Solomon became homeguards It wasn t always known as Booger Hole James Rogers owned most of this particle of land that ran up both sides of Rush Fork James and his family made their home in the middle of the two forks of the Fork River He was a very progressive farmer of his time and made a lot of money back in those days Story tells that one evening James and Solomon were on Homeguard duty and came across a guerilla unit They followed them thru the forest for some time before giving up the track They returned home late happy that their wives were at an ill neighbors bedside However one guerilla soldier followed James and Sol back home and gathered a band up to drag them from their beds in the middle of the night Now if you ve ever been in WV in the middle of the night it s still And dark The trees are so big you can t see the moon less you re in a valley The stillness is so loud it can drive a person to lunacy The guerillas dragged the respected Homegaurds from their beds Took them to a nearby hollow bound them to a tree and riddled the bodies with bullets That s how they were found the next day The death allowed some of the guerilla bushwackers to come back and confiscate the land known as Rush Fork This area made an excellent hideout as it was very isolated which made it a grand place for the many atrocities to come people traveling thru the wild West Virginia land took great heed to bypass this area now known as Booger Hole stay tuned more to come I m thirsty and hungry Dawn 279 MJ s Heirloom Mavens QMD http driven through that area once and that was before I did my genealogy On the same drive I went to WV My great grandfather was born in Ky and moved to Mo in the mid 1800s and then to Texas in 1880 All generations since have been Texas natives I love the picture you paint of that area LaVonna www windsongwellnessandtherapyshoppe com http sadiesfarm blogspot com http healthtalkcafe blogspot com
