  • Women Learning Together | MB Mission
There was only strife between us We were still living under the same roof but we couldn t get along so we had been living separate lives for more than six months At the conference this woman was challenged by God and encouraged by her fellow sisters in Christ to call her husband So she picked up a phone and humbled herself before him and apologized It was the beginning of a reconciled marriage The theme of the weekend was Let Us Learn Together Many women testified that they were renewed in their relationship with Christ and received new understanding of their value before God Several women made first time decisions to follow Jesus In one session I felt led to ask each woman to write down their problems and concerns on a piece of paper Then I invited them to come up and pin their papers to the cross at the front of the room I said Leave your troubles at the cross of Jesus I encouraged them not to worry but to trust Jesus Then I asked them to stand up and give hugs to those around them and to pray for one another As I hugged a woman from the front row she began to sob I held her tightly with both arms and prayed for her as she continued to weep After our long embrace I asked her Why were you sobbing when I hugged you She turned to me and said Because I had just prayed God I need a hug I need a hug with two arms I was touched by her sincerity but then she explained to me the significance of her prayer Her husband only has one arm and although she loves him very much she wanted to feel a fuller embrace

  • A Typical Atypical Day | MB Mission
the airport By 6 30 am I was flying to the capital where I landed forty five minutes later I went to a small café and waited until a kind man from the embassy arrived He had offered to meet me near the airport to save me the forty minute taxi ride to the embassy In the café he gave me the documents that we needed and before long I was boarding the plane back home It was only a two hour visit to the capital After landing back in our city I drove home and gobbled down some early lunch Since it was snowing heavily by now I decided that I should try and submit our paperwork in time before the city came to a standstill due to the snow This involved a short taxi ride a subway a transfer to a different subway and finally a third subway After going through security at the Foreigners Bureau I rushed upstairs to the office of the man handling our permits He asked me to wait outside Finally the man called me in and went through our documents one final time As he did so he hesitated There appeared to be a problem with one of our passports In that moment I prayed silently I chose to relax and trust that if God was inviting our family to stay in the country a misplaced stamp in my passport wouldn t prevent us from acquiring the permit After a short talk with his supervisor the man informed me that everything was accepted and that we would have our residence permits in our mailbox within fifteen days It was a huge relief and an answer to prayer We had not been sure how things were going to work since our old permits had

  • Tough Questions from Kids | MB Mission
believe God will keep Daddy safe when he s away when clearly other people have not been kept safe Does that mean God chose not to keep them safe Do some people s prayers count more than others What if God decides not to keep us safe Wow She has touched on some questions that many of us ask And so we pray for grace and wisdom when we talk with her Yes God hears everyone s prayers And yes sometimes people die and God allows it And yes we will continue to pray that God will keep us safe in Burundi Mostly we thank God for leading us so faithfully and ask that we will continue to hear his voice and be obedient And we ask for the grace to get through the hard stuff too We also pray that God will be speaking to our girls and revealing himself to them Another tough question that was posed to us was What is a government And why aren t the people with power taking care of others Our hearts cry out against the injustice that we see There are complex power struggles playing out all over the country People are going to jail without trials while others are being killed for their association with various groups Discrimination is everywhere Many people are fearful of the current situation and hopeless that it will improve How do we respond to our kids How do we help our kids see that even the bad guys of this world are people created for redemption through Jesus We are reminded in Scripture of who is really in charge In Psalm 46 10 11 it says Be still and know that I am God I will be exalted among the nations I will be exalted

  • Overwhelming Need to Intercede | MB Mission
the largest religious festivals of the year was taking place that day and the next All over the city people were offering sacrifices and opening their homes to welcome the goddesses Shortly after David asked for some food Immediately I could see that his condition had deteriorated considerably I decided to call an ambulance My husband and a neighbour helped David down three flights of narrow stairs which took thirty minutes because he kept needing to rest As I stood out on our balcony and waited for the ambulance to arrive I experienced the same sensation that I had had that morning In my physical body I felt an urgency and heaviness that is unlike anything I had ever encountered Again I took the time to intercede for thirty minutes while two of my girls played and my youngest slept At one point I went inside to see if my kids were also feeling the effects of this battle that was being waged But they were completely oblivious My one daughter paused as I stepped inside and she looked up at me and said Jesus is giving me a hug I went back outside As I continued to pray I felt the presence of death so strongly that I could no longer stand on my feet In that moment I saw a vision of David passing into eternity At that point I still thought that he was only suffering from asthma Later we were to learn that David was experiencing a pulmonary embolism which meant that blood clots were blocking the flow of blood in the main arteries to both of his lungs He was in fact dying At the hospital the doctors quickly diagnosed his problem and informed him that his body was shutting down Here is the amazing

  • Interruptions or Opportunities? | MB Mission
that those plans get thrown out of the window pretty quick How was I to know that Friday was a school holiday which meant that my neighbourhood friends would be at my gate looking to hang out What do I do when I leave ample time to prepare for my next language exam but then suddenly I find myself dealing with insurance companies police reports and auto repair shops after my car hits an unknown object while driving home at night How do I choose to respond For a few seconds I actually hid from my friends Bow and Sigh when they showed up to visit But when I surrendered my agenda and let them in making sure they knew I had limited time I ended up having the most fun and it was the girls who looked at the time and said that they needed to go home The incident with my car was annoying I needed to call my teammates to wait at the side of the road with me for three hours until the insurance man showed up I was also helped by some locals who lived near to where the accident occurred I received their hospitality until after midnight as we waited beside the road But what if the interruptions in my life are actually God given appointments I ask God to give me opportunities to get to know my neighbours so why am I annoyed when he answers that prayer How is it that I pray for increased favour in Phan Thong but then I don t recognize the gift of meeting a group of police officers Along the side of the road where I waited I met Taa who works at a noodle shop with her mother I m looking forward to how God

to flood Kalaam s mind and he began to secretly search for answers As a teen he discovered a radio program that discussed questions of faith openly But the radio reception was poor and he could only listen when his family wasn t watching him Eventually Kalaam contacted the radio station and sent away for some of the resources that they offered I began to read about Jesus and a God of love As a young adult Kalaam got married and started a family He succeeded as a businessman in the construction industry and often travelled to Saudi Arabia for work While I was away from home I had more freedom to explore my questions and beliefs As I read the Bible I began to trust in the God of the Bible On one occasion when Kalaam returned home to his family his wife noticed that he was different Encouraged by the evidence of change in his life he confessed to her that he had become a follower of Jesus But she was disturbed by the news and immediately told her parents and brothers Kalaam is an apostate they said You must divorce him I was crushed Kalaam remembers and yet somehow this rejection only strengthened his faith in Jesus Because of the divorce he was unable to return to his work in Saudi Arabia and had to remain at home to provide for his children However his ex wife and her family spread the news of his conversion throughout the community which marred his reputation and destroyed any chance for him to work with local construction clients Kalaam s situation went from bad to worse when he was framed for murder and sent to prison He suffered alone in jail for three and a half years before he was

  • We Need Rain | MB Mission
open at night to beat the heat and woke up in the morning to a thick layer of dust and grit over every exposed surface in the house Even the leaves on the trees outside of our apartment window were coated with dust hiding their shimmering green The sky was filled with haze and instead of the normal blue it looked a dingy tan color My wife looked at me and said We need rain Sometimes our lives feel the same way like we re covered in spiritual grit and gunk and our proverbial skies are gray It feels like we need a couple hours of cleaning and scrubbing to make it all shimmer again The problem is that no amount of scrubbing will get rid of it That s where grace comes in pure refreshing vivifying It comes from God above and from God alone And just like the rains come to wash the dust out of the sky and out of the trees so God s grace comes to us through a person washing us clean making us pure giving us life You don t have to do much to get rained on just walk outside It s
