  • One Troubled Woman | MB Mission
was a mess physically emotionally and spiritually When our team arrived in the village we went straight to her home The woman s mother had asked us to pray and invited us into their home Even the District Governor was well aware of this troubled woman After hearing that we were praying for her the Governor said If your God can heal this woman I will become a Christian When we approached the woman she would not look at us But we prayed for her and kept praying into the evening Two of the team members stayed for night in her family home For the next two days we continued to pray for this woman During that time she refused to eat But after two days we began to see small changes in her She asked for some food She took a shower She asked about her children When she began to interact more with the team members we asked if she would like to receive Christ as Lord of her life Not only did the woman eagerly accept Jesus but her whole family was saved that very day And after her village saw the change in her life all

the Gospel pray for the sick bring food and supplies shoot photos and video and capture sound to tell God s stories As we reached 11 000 feet I began to feel the cold and wondered if my parka gloves thermal layers and sleeping bag would be enough to keep me warm Spiritually we were also unsure about what opposition we might face The second night we found lodging in a small town at 14 500 feet There was snow and ice everywhere and the air had a special crispness My head began to ache After eating for warmth and nourishment we bunked down in our sleeping bags hoping somehow to endure the cold There was no heating in our rooms As the others drifted off to sleep my headache intensified I had never felt anything like it before I began to feel discouraged thinking that after traveling thousands of miles and spending considerable amounts of money I would have to turn back Had I come all this way for nothing I wanted to continue I wanted to finish what God had called me to do During the night I wrestled with God I knew about the risks of altitude sickness that the condition could progress and potentially become fatal In the morning I told my traveling companions about my symptoms and their first response was to come by my side lay hands on me and pray The dangers were clear to all of us If we continued on our way the risk would only be greater because we would be further away from medical help We needed to make a decision If my symptoms continued we d have no choice but to turn back Thirty minutes later my symptoms were gone God had answered our prayers and we were

  • Close to God's Heart | MB Mission
Earlier this year we randomly passed by a school in our city that was building a new elementary wing Out of curiosity and a sense of adventure we went inside to ask about the possibility of our children attending the school They told us about their dream to have smaller classes so they could invest in each individual student We also discovered that their hope was to have an English teacher in every class to teach the students English Immediately I mentioned that my wife had studied early childhood education They seemed interested Unfortunately there were numerous obstacles in the way of our children s acceptance to the school First the construction on the elementary wing was still incomplete Second the tuition fees seemed out of reach Third our children needed to pass a Turkish entrance exam It all seemed like too much to expect As we walked away from the school I knew that it would take a miracle I also knew it would be a huge blessing for our children to attend Not knowing what would happen we enrolled our children in another school And we prayed We kept praying even after all three of our children started to attend the other school But then one day we got a phone call asking us to come back to the school for another visit Our hearts were hopeful When we arrived they announced that all three of our children were accepted into the school and all three were awarded scholarships They would start their classes in a week once construction was complete In addition they asked my wife to teach English in the Kindergarten class alongside the Turkish teacher We had prayed for an open door and it just swung wide open in front of us As we walked

  • Same Moon, Same God | MB Mission
and it reminded of the moon back in Vancouver Coincidentally it s the same one and it s just as beautiful in Paris as it is back home A simple observation but it reminded me that I often forget that our Father in heaven is the same God in both major cities as well His character doesn t change from place to place Like the moon his character is bright and glorious He attracts all kinds of people His radiance is drawing his chosen people to himself It s a beautiful reality of our God Over the past few months my husband André and I have been learning a lot about the religion of Islam One of the things that has become plain to see is that this religion is more than a way of thinking more than a philosophy and even more than a way of life it s a dictation of culture and identity Islam will forever be linked with a specific cultural moment in Arabic history It seems that becoming a Muslim requires not only a religious conversion but a conversion into Arabic culture language and society Enter the Gospel Jesus came leaving his heavenly home coming to our desperate and dying world giving up his very life for the sake of all people He did not come to make us all ethnic Jews He did not come to make us all ethnic Greek or even to do as the Jews do or do as the Romans did No he came to find the lost to raise the dead to redeem the broken from all nations This is the great cultural equalizer that God has chosen his people from all corners of the earth and adopted them into his grandly diverse family not by anything that anyone

teacher asked if anyone had ever shared the Gospel with someone Immediately a ten year old boy stood up and said I have How old were you at the time the teacher asked It was three years ago he said so I was seven Then the teacher asked How old was the person that you shared with About twenty five he said The teacher and I were surprised and eager to his story He told us that he was walking down the road with his parents when he saw a man who looked sad So he went up to him and asked him how he was doing The man responded Not so good today Where are your parents the boy asked They don t talk to me anymore the man said Well that doesn t matter the boy said because I know someone who loves you more than they ever could The man looked at him and asked Who Jesus the boy said and he began to share with this man the love of Jesus Christ After talking to him for a few minutes the boy asked Sir would you like to ask Jesus to be your personal savior This brave little boy told us how he had prayed with this man and how afterward the man could not stop smiling The teacher and I were amazed We all need to have that kind of heart to see a stranger on the side of the road and just ask how their day is going People need to know that someone loves them more than their own parents could ever love them People need to know that Jesus is right there waiting for them to let him into their lives This little boy inspired me If he can do it then

the schools have longer hours and much more homework than North American schools So our children are leaving home at 8 a m and not getting back from school until 5 p m every day Then on top of that they have at least one to two hours of homework every evening This means that the kids have almost no free time during the week and our family time is also very limited We had planned to encourage regular reading times with our children so that they can keep up with their English but obviously there has not been time for this either We didn t know what to do It felt like all we could do was join the Serenity Prayer God grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change the courage to change the things we can and wisdom to know the difference After praying this for a while we felt that God was giving us the go ahead to try and make some changes Last week as we walked into the school to speak with the teachers and the Principal we planned to explain our situation and ask if our children could come home for two afternoons each week We knew that it would be difficult for them to accept but we also knew that a foundation of prayer had been laid before us and that the Father was in control of the outcome God was faithful and we were so thankful when the school approved our request It took time and effort and paperwork but in the end the Principal and both of our children s teachers agreed with our plan This took such a weight off of our shoulders knowing that our kids would have that extra time to catch up on
