  • Contagious Praise | MB Mission
Bethel Church Team members Bob and Chris Davis and Dave and Louise Sinclair Peters witnessed God transforming lives as He gave His free gift of salvation to people who did not know Him God gave the team the idea to begin meeting outside the home of one of the new believers to eat dinner and practice speaking English The Gospel has been presented at each meeting and every single time someone has responded to the invitation to know Jesus Some of these new believers are people the Bethel Team has known for a long time while others they have only recently met Pray that these new Christians would be deeply rooted in Jesus built up in their faith and trained to share the love of Christ with others On November 30 2008 the Bethel Team held their first ever combined worship service for their Bethel cell groups About 70 people gathered in a small rented building in the city to celebrate God s grace and glory together as they ate played and prayed It was an encouraging and historic time for the believers most of whom have been Christians for less than a few years and some for just a few weeks Louise was struck by how the kids and teens about 40 of them led the way in shouting praises to Jesus and singing at the top of their lungs As the cell churches continue to grow the Bethel Team plans to have a combined meeting once a month alternating between the city and the country cell locations In the summer they were able to purchase a piece of nearby land and have begun to build a Sala a bamboo gazebo where they will have their services and Kid s Club The cell church has grown so much that

  • Hidden in My Heart | MB Mission
was no longer able to breathe on her own Laurence Hiebert a missionary serving with MB Mission in Japan received an interesting phone call from Mrs S s eldest daughter one day Because of her exposure to Sunday School as a seven year old girl Mrs S had been expressing a long held desire to be connected to a church Having driven by the church many times her daughter decided to call Laurence to ask if he would talk to her mom After connecting with Mrs S s daughters Laurence learned that Mrs S s parents died when she was very young For some years she lived in an orphanage run by nuns later attending Sunday School for a few months at a protestant church When she became sick and was nearing death thoughts of her childhood encounters with God began swirling about in her brain once again After listening to what Mrs S s daughters had to share they read a few bible passages together Laurence ended their meeting in prayer and the daughters were moved to tears When Laurence met Mrs S what he found was the mark of God s faithfulness Mrs S is a woman who desires to know the Lord but for many years she simply didn t know how After speaking with Laurence she expressed her longing to accept Jesus One night as Laurence sat beside Mrs S s bed he noticed her concentrating deeply and striving to conjure up enough energy to speak In a soft halting voice Mrs S opened her mouth and recited John 3 16 from memory a verse that she had learned as a child In her few months in Sunday School Mrs S learned God s Word and stored it in her heart The seeds that were planted

  • The Battle Belongs to the Lord | MB Mission
From September 28 to October 7 Phuket celebrated its yearly Chinese Vegetarian Festival Spirits are summoned from China to come to Phuket and indwell certain individuals who are known as Rang Saongs Members of O2W including Amanda and Amber Griffioen felt God calling them to go to a key location where many of the parades of Rang Saongs are In these parades people mutilate their bodies in different ways and manifest the spirits The O2W team continuously felt God s presence reminding them not to be afraid because the battle is His He is victorious They felt strongly led to stand firm and to praise Jesus Surrounded by such thick darkness God indwelt them with His strong light They were overwhelmed by the love of Jesus the victory of Jesus and the joy of Jesus The team became convinced that the most effective weapons in spiritual warfare are praising Jesus proclaiming His word and claiming His promises As women brought their babies to be blessed by the possessed people Jesus asked the girls to also bless the babies They went and laid hands on the little ones and blessed them The mothers were very open to this Later during the festival they encountered eight year old boy named Nong An and his alcoholic father Just a child Nong An was chosen by the spirits to be possessed and pierced The team shared the gospel with father and son and when they began praying for the boy he started to dry heave and asked them to stop Clearly affected the father urged his son to become a Christian Praise the Lord They have since gotten to know Nong An better He is very sensitive to the spiritual realm Pray that God will lift the veil off his eyes Jesus is victorious

  • A Hub of Discipleship | MB Mission
fast becoming an incubator of spiritual health Phil was making small talk with his massage therapist when their dialogue turned to deeper matters and found out they were both Christians Phil had been looking for someone that he could learn to pray with in the native language so he asked the migrant worker Josephï ª if he would like to become his prayer partner This began a process of discipleship and evangelism The next time Phil and Susan went to the salon Phil started up a conversation with Susan s therapist Gail As he began to probe deeper he asked her Have you ever thought about God Are you interested in learning about Him When Gail answered yes Phil thought that it would be the perfect opportunity for Joseph to share his faith with his co worker So Joseph started at the beginning with creation and followed God s plan of salvation to the end with the death and resurrection of Jesus Two days later Gail accepted Christ into her heart Since then other workers at the salon have also become Christians But the story does not end there God has continued to use this discipleship relationship to train Joseph to take the opportunities to share Christ with the people he encounters on a daily basis One day Phil and Joseph were at Phil s house praying together When Phil s house maid entered the room Phil struck up a spiritual conversation in his usual manner When she said that she wanted to know more about God Phil invited her to return on Monday when Joseph would share the gospel with her She came back on Monday eager to hear the Good News and Joseph had the privilege of watching her come to Christ Pray that this foot massage salon

  • Building Blocks of Faith | MB Mission
donated in faith Robert and Erika felt that it was important to listen to God as an entire congregation So as they looked at potential pieces of property the church would gather to pray and seek God The third lot that they looked at one which was more expensive than the previous two was the only lot that all the church members agreed upon The church took a step of faith and decided to go forward with this property Though it had been sitting untouched for 20 years one member felt an urgency to put a 5000 payment down on the property From there they would ask 60 days to come up with the rest of the money praying in faith that God would provide God pulled in the funds in less than 60 days A generous supporter donated the exact amount that was needed to finish the purchase of the property When Robert and Erika went back to the realtor to complete the transaction they learned that just two days after they paid the down payment a woman approached the realtor with cash in hand to buy the lot But praise the Lord that the realtor maintained his integrity making Robert and Erika the owners of a lot upon which God would build His church A thatched roof was all the congregation could afford but they met there for one year in faith that God would provide And He did in measured steps After the foundation was poured more funds came in and the walls went up Every Monday night the church gathered together on the construction grounds asking God to complete the work He began God continued to move in people s hearts touching two supporters to send in a generous sum Combined these amounts totaled the exact

  • Dependency on Jesus | MB Mission
song with the words Here am I send me She had no idea what missions was but what she did know was that she felt the Lord s call in her life Not long after that Esperanza and Jose were asked to consider church planting in Peru Being aware of our dependency on God is the most basic but also the greatest piece of advice that I could ever give anyone She continues with a story that has given her the joy to persevere during difficult seasons There is this 90 year old woman she begins and the first time that I met her she came up to me and Jose and gave us a big hug She told us says Esperanza Prayers of people she has never met before have propelled Esperanza onward and encouraged her to trust Jesus during those times she wants to give up There are moments when I want to go back to my country she says I won t lie I love Colombia and I miss it a lot But when people I don t know tell me they have been praying for me for my husband and for our ministry it gives me great courage to go forward I have been praying for you since before you were born For years I have felt so much pain that there is no Mennonite church here in Lima I prayed that God would raise up someone to start this church When I learned about you I was so happy and I asked God for the chance to meet you She was so grateful that she cried says Esperanza The Lord gave me so much courage in that moment Have you like Esperanza felt God calling you to the mission field Leaving behind your friends family
