    of Directors Posted by Safira Lachapelle on Thursday July 24 2014 Leave a Comment MEDIA RELEASE For Immediate Release Friends of Medalta Society Names 2014 15 Board of Directors July 24 2014 Medicine Hat Alberta CANADA Following the Friends of Medalta Society Annual General Meeting in July the Society re convened to select its 2014 15 Board Executive and officially welcome two new Directors to the mix This is a very dynamic Board explains Dave Sherwood who was re elected by the Board to another year as Chair I m excited to be working with this group to develop long term sustainability plans for the Historic Clay District The goal of this organization is to provide world class cultural and heritage programming for all and we are confident that we re accomplishing that There was some change within the Board of Directors for 2014 15 Retiring from the Board in 2014 after serving a maximum six year term is Quentin Brehmer who served as Treasurer Director Cal Niebergall will replace Brehmer as Treasurer with Dr Linda Rossler assuming duties as Vice Chair Dave Sherwood James Marshall and Terry Schank were all elected to their second term while Drew Jackiw and

    Member Partners Gallery Rental Space Specifications Reception Gallery Photo Gallery Rental Contact Employment Opportunities Art Exhibitions Map On Line Gift Shop Market Medalta Stringam Denecky Black White Gala Business as usual at Medalta Posted by Safira Lachapelle on Monday June 23 2014 Leave a Comment Business as usual at Medalta June 23 2014 Medicine Hat Alberta CANADA There have been lots of questions over the past few days regarding Medalta s status in the wake of the issues with the Purmal lift station Medalta is indeed open for business as usual this week That includes school field trips regular museum gift shop gallery patrons booked private events and artists in residence Medalta was identified by the City of Medicine Hat as being in the red zone in response to the issues taking place at the Purmal lift station Anyone in the red zone who has a sewage isolation valve is required to close it essentially stopping sewage and water services to that particular property Medalta does not have an isolation valve installed but does have other flood mitigation measures in place They are not expecting any further issues in connection with the Purmal lift station Staff are continuing to monitor

    Market Medalta Stringam Denecky Black White Gala Medalta Flood Update June 18 10 45am Posted by Safira Lachapelle on Wednesday June 18 2014 Leave a Comment MEDIA RELEASE For Immediate Release Statement from Medalta regarding Southern Alberta Flood 2014 June 18 2014 Medicine Hat Alberta CANADA Medalta has engaged its Emergency Response Plan to deal with the flooding expected to hit Medicine Hat over the next couple of days The City of Medicine Hat has declared a local State of Emergency and has been working around the clock to combat rising water levels Although the South Saskatchewan River water levels are not expected to peak until Friday June 20 mitigation efforts have already begun at both Medalta Potteries National Historic Site and Medicine Hat Brick Tile Provincial Historic Resource The plan includes monitoring and reinforcing existing berms sealing sewer water lines and moving sensitive equipment to higher ground The City of Medicine Hat is planning to install temporary berms that will connect to existing berms surrounding Medalta Medalta will remain open on Wednesday with staff on site but will close on Thursday As long as flood projections do not change Medalta expects to be evacuated in the next 24 48

    educators They are in South East Alberta from Thailand Malaysia Australia and Singapore At 7 00pm on Monday September 23 Medalta will be hosting a special Speakers Series for this incredibly SEXSE group The format will be fun quick and engaging each artist will only have a few minutes to speak prompted by visuals of their work life experience or whatever else inspires them It will be a fun evening and a rare opportunity to meet these artists before they jet back across oceans to their home There is no charge for this event and everyone is encouraged to attend Vipoo Srivilasa Thomas Cheong Krisaya Luenganantakul Teo Huey Min Boon Kiat James Seet ARTIST BIOS Vipoo Srivilasa A Thai born Melbourne based artist VIPOO SRIVILASA works mostly in ceramics exploring similarities between the cultures of his native home Thailand and his adoptive home Australia His work is a playful blend of historical Figurative and Decorative art practices with a health dose of Contemporary Culture Vipoo relocated to Australia in 1996 to further his studies in ceramics As well as a Bachelor or Art Ceramics from Rangsit University in Bangkok Vipoo holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Ceramics from Monash University and a Master of Fine Art and Design Ceramics from the University of Tasmania Using blue and white colour he creates complex narratives through highly decorated images applied to the surfaces of ceramic forms His work requires an intimacy in which the key elements of the drama are often found in unusual places within the forms themselves Vipoo has exhibited widely both in Australia and overseas Thomas Cheong Thomas Cheong was born in 1977 in Singapore Thomas is a full time art practitioner and educator specializing in the field of ceramics In 2000 he co founded and has since co managed Contemporary Clay Studio an artist studio space based in Singapore with Teo Huey Min Thomas has had his work exhibited in Asia and America His work can also be seen in the first annual Medalta International Cup Show Teo Huey Min Teo Huey Min was born in Singapore in 1983 She is currently pursuing her Masters in Fine Arts at Tainan National University of the Arts She has participated in residencies and exhibitions in China and in the United States at Baltimore Clayworks Her ceramic work has also been showcased in Korea Taiwan and Singapore Krisaya Luenganantakul Krisaya is a ceramic artist and lecturer From 2005 to 2011 she was a full time professor and taught courses in Basic Sculpture and Ceramic Arts at the Department of Art Music and Dance Faculty of Education Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok Thailand Currently she is a part time lecturer at Chulalongkorn University and Assumption University Bangkok Thailand She has had both domestic and international exhibitions Between September 2007 to May 2008 she was selected as one of the artists in residence at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts Newcastle Maine USA Later in 2008 her work was selected for presentation at the
