    submitted to the Tennessee Supreme Court for approval to serve as a mentor Following that approval you will be paired with a beginning lawyer and can receive up to 6 hours of CLE credit for serving as a mentor in addition to the CLE credit you receive for attending mentor training If you re interested in serving as a mentor and receiving CLE credit we invite you to attend the MBA sponsored mentoring training on October 2 2015 The training is based on the following concept In what order might a new lawyer begin to attend to the tasks needed to start the practice of law The training will be interactive with those attending learning from and sharing with other experienced lawyers committed to the future of our profession It will be facilitated by Kathy Story and Yvonne Chapman lawyers who have extensive experience in mentoring and developing young lawyers Judge Butch Childers will be on hand to discuss attorney well being You will receive a practical handout of issues to discuss under each topic and be directed to resource materials online to assist you in the mentor relationship October 2 2015 1 00 5 15 p m 4 hours

    the public are helped on a first come first served basis Walk ins are welcome Veterans Pro Bono Clinic A legal clinic to assist veterans is held on the 4th Thursday of each month on the 11th floor of 1407 Union Ave from 12 00 noon to 2 00 p m Volunteer attorneys provide advice to veterans on matters such as child support expungement of criminal record driver s license revocation and debts Attorneys cannot provide advice on veterans benefits Mediator of the Day Volunteer mediators provide free mediation assistance to people in conflict usually in General Sessions Court and help them reach an agreement to avoid a trial Mediators meet in General Sessions Division 4 at 10 00 a m every Thursday to schedule mediation Memphis Area Legal Services Memphis Area Legal Services MALS provides free legal assistance and representation in civil non criminal matters to eligible clients in Shelby Fayette Tipton and Lauderdale Counties For most help clients must be U S citizens or legal residents have low income and limited assets and be seeking help with a legal issue that they handle However they can assist the following regardless of income level the elderly those with foreclosure prevention mortgage default or other housing problems those with tax issues To find out if you are eligible for their services call 901 523 8822 and talk to an intake couinselor MALS does not handle the following matters criminal cases class actions malpractice personal injury product liabiility or worker s compensation MALS also sponsors several clinics for the public For a complete listing of those clinics click here Community Legal Center The Community Legal Center CLC provides the working poor in Shelby County with private legal counsel in basic civil matters Cases that CLC handles include landlord tenant disputes garnishments
