  • Mission Direct - Volunteers Helping The World's Poor
    the world Thank you for joining with us in this way Please continue to pray for our work our volunteers and those we are working with Please continue to pray for the people of Sierra Leone during the Ebola crisis Please put the staff and young people of Lifeline in your prayers as they open an Ebola holding centre in their community Please pray for both our teams currently out in Moldova This year we have run parallel teams for the first time This has been a logistical challenge for our staff but they have risen to the challenge with great enthusiasm and acheived so much working with various partners Pray for our youth group from Chesham working at Casa Helen for our other volunteers supporting Beginning of Life and for Bryan Sarah Paul and Rachel as they finish off what has been the best year yet in Moldova In Zimbabwe our volunteers including a group from St Neot s Evangelical Church have been moving a mountain of bricks for two additional classrooms This is our final team for 2015 and work is progressing well Please pray that the team can get the work needed completed In Kenya our final summer team continue their work with Pastor Patrick building a safe place for girls at risk of FGM and forced marriage Please pray for the farm that was officially opened on Saturday 22nd August Please thank God for our team that have just returned from the Dominican Republic During their time along with building houses they have painted a second world map mural and one depicting Jonah and the whale Please pray for the continued safe travel of our teams as they Go around the world You can sign up for our regular monthly prayer updates Just fill out your

    2 3 4 5 Click on an image to view the gallery Your Trip Impact So Far Booking and Dates Freedom from the favelas In 2016 Brazil will be host to the Olympics but its slums or favelas are a side of the nation that few non Brazilians ever see They are a hidden world of shocking poverty violence both gang and domestic addiction teenage pregnancies and squalor You can help to rescue families from this life it s the chance to show God s love in action to Brazil s forgotten vulnerable Main Project We will be continuing our work alongside Open Hands and working on phase 2 of the Village Project which will see 8 more homes built Working with our partners you will be working on building 2 of those houses to re home families from the favelas As well as new homes the project includes a football pitch and a community building Other visits may include Lar Feliz Happy Home our recently completed project providing safe homes for siblings Visit a Christian Rehabilitation Centre Prepare craft activities for at risk single mums Off duty Breathtaking Brazil Take a boat trip through the world famous mangroves and witness some amazing wildlife from magnificent birds to wild dolphins Walk through the Amazon Rainforest to a beautiful waterfall where you can swim in the natural pool before travelling to several beautiful beaches We ll also visit a local indigenous tribe expect a few native songs and dances Campo Largo Childrens Home The Open Hands Project Trip Dates Below are the dates for trips to our projects in brazil The contribution amount for the trip is shown Trip contributions are required to cover all expenses travel visas accomodation food and any cultural outings All further money that you raise goes

    top of that their landlord is selling their home Nazareth House The main project Nazareth House The Samaritan Foundation has so far built over 1 300 low cost homes for families trapped in shocking poverty During your fortnight you will help with the building of Nazareth House which will provide a purpose built home for Sister Mercedes and her family You may also be refurbishing shacks in one of the Samaritan Foundation villages Sebere Village Working on the site is great fun and there is something for all abilities You could be painting wooden shutter windows laying bricks or taking a rest from the heat and cheering the others on Other visits Every afternoon you will visit and help with other projects and activities including Visiting getting to know and encouraging the men at Christ Transforms Rehab Centre Spending time in a children s home working with the children and helping the staff Visiting a local school where you may have the opportunity to take a lesson or provide food for the kids There will be also be the chance to sponsor one of the children Visit Aguas Negras a community outreach project in a heavily polluted slum area by the coast Off duty You will stay at a lovely all inclusive hotel right on the beach All rooms are air conditioned and in the evenings you will be able to take a dip in the pool or a walk along the beach with your family At the end of the trip you will get to enjoy snorkelling with a variety of tropical fish off a sand bank in the middle of the ocean Samaritans Foundation Villages Schools Building Projects Trip Dates Below are the dates for trips to our projects in dominican The contribution amount for the trip is

    time Flocks of geese waddle along the road joining the cows goats and hens Cars are few and many people still use horse and cart to carry out their daily chores You will be working to restore the homes of the most vulnerable people in the village Over the summer we will have three teams and each will work on one or two homes Many of the homes in the village are in a poor state which encourages families to leave the village and head to the city where they are then vulnerable to exploitation This work is key to preventing rural depopulation and exploitation You will also support the older people in the community Many older people are isolated as their children leave the country to work abroad most never to return Over the winter temperatures can drop to minus thirty and many older people don t make it through the season We aim to improve a room in each home which can be used as a room for families to live during the winter months We are pleased to once again be running a youth team 16 21 years old who will stay at Carmen s house Important note All under 18 s travelling without their parents require a legal document prepared by a notary in order to travel to Moldova Other visits In the afternoons you will run children s clubs in the village to support Carmen s work with the local children work alongside the Phoenix Centre a residential care centre for disabled young people support children in a local orphanage by running activities Off duty You will have the opportunity to visit the historic capital Chisinau and will have time to explore the markets coffee shops and a beautiful monastery that is a UNESCO World

    often marginalised and very few have the opportunity to attend school Schools struggle to meet the needs of disabled children transport problems and attitudes all conspire to exclude disabled children from school Main Project Construction of dormitories Nkapilili School is run by Sister Clemencia a Catholic Nun with a heart for the most marginalised Her aim is to build a school for the whole community to use with dormitories for disabled children so that they can attend school full time You will be helping to build the school in Narok in the heart of Maasailand Other visits You will also work with a number of other social projects during your trip Amongst other visits there is the chance to visit families and individuals with HIV AIDS They are often housebound and too weak to provide for themselves You may have the opportunity to bring a much needed parcel of food and spend some time getting to know them You will also spend time with the street boys of Narok and organising activities for children in a care home Off duty The trip ends with a visit to the world renowned Maasai Mara game park one of the best game parks in Africa There s also a boat trip on Lake Navasha where you will see lots of hippos and crocodiles Trip Dates Below are the dates for trips to our projects in kenya The contribution amount for the trip is shown Trip contributions are required to cover all expenses travel visas accomodation food and any cultural outings All further money that you raise goes directly to the project Mission Direct is happy to offer help and advice to anyone wishing to bring a group on a trip Please call 01582 720056 Kenya 2016 Team 3 2 July 17 July 2016
