    year and comply with the state s tax cap requirements That letter can be viewed here The video below is based on additional recommendations from ECB on how state government can invest in the future through sustainable education progress Video with budget information Budget planning begins despite challenges We ve never seen this level of uncertainly in our budget planning Mohonasen Superintendent Dr Kathleen Spring said And this so called reform agenda being talked about does not include reforming how our schools are funded We need to talk about funding for programs that will benefit our students and not be distracted by politics Spring emphasized that meeting increasing learning standards and graduation requirements should be the focus By 2022 for example every student must attain at least a 74 on the Algebra Regents and an 84 on the English Regents to graduate Last year at Mohonasen 13 percent of Algebra students and 38 percent of English students met this requirement We have serious challenges ahead of us Spring said Challenges we won t be able to meet if our schools continue to not be adequately funded Despite the uncertainly the Mohonasen Board of Education has started is budget development process for the 2015 2016 school year Spring said starting now is essential to meeting the state required budget development deadlines The Board has scheduled a series of public budget meetings throughout the coming months That schedule and all presentation materials can be found here as they become available At this point when looking at all known and unknown factors Mohonasen leaders say they are facing a 921 971 budget gap This does not include any increase in state aid however it does include a tax increase at the district s projected tax levy cap of 2 39 percent Both the

    the latest headlines from the Capital Region BOCES parent publication Parent Today While the school pages will continue to feature news headlines Leon said these pages are a simplified version of their predecessors From the school pages to the various sections such as food services or athletics she said the idea was to make it easier for people looking for details about programs and services to find exactly what they need Most information in the site is categorized by six major topics About Us Academics Athletics Board of Education Community and Student Services Clicking on any of those links on the top left hand side of the site will allow visitors to access the more detailed sub pages for each Example For School Health Services simply click on Student Services And if visitors can t find what they are looking for there they can simply scroll down to the black box at the bottom of any page This area features an index for each of the major sections A traditional search feature is also available for visitors Another significant change is that all pages including the school pages have a consistent design and organization This is expected to help parents know where to look to find particular information and to keep visitors connected to the overall district site as they navigate between school and district pages The site contains many of the features that the Mohonasen school community has come to expect and rely on including Academics Find information about curriculum and academic departments learn about special areas like Mo Tech and Career and Technical Education and access important resources like the High School Course of Study The academic page also includes information about the state s learning standards testing special education and report cards Calendar The new website continues to use Google s free calendar feature enabling the district to add or change dates as needed There is also the ability for parents to sync district and school dates with their personal Google calendar Budget Finance Access comprehensive school budget information including current year budget details voting and advocacy information and timely budget development documents Board of Education The site features information about Board members and how to contact them a meeting schedule and agendas and minutes Forms Publications Notifications and Policies These pages include everything from past district newsletters to health forms to Codes of Conduct and athletic forms Athletics This includes a list of teams participation information and a link to the new scheduling system Community Several aspects of the current site were combined into a new category Community which includes links to the PTO page and other parent groups swimming pool and continuing education information town websites and other community organizations like the Mohonasen Foundation for Excellence and alumni information Note that because most alumni groups now use Facebook and other social media sites we will no longer support an alumni database feature Staff Directory and Contact Us The new site includes a staff database searchable

  • Bilingual fairy tales, high school students come to Bradt | Mohonasen Central School District, Rotterdam, NY

  • Suburban Scholastic Council set to expand for athletics | Mohonasen Central School District, Rotterdam, NY
    the possibility of having to petition Section 2 for league affiliation However through collegiality and cooperation between the athletic directors of these four schools and the Suburban Council athletic directors a process was established by which the schools could apply for associate membership Two of the schools Albany and Schenectady have also applied for full membership to the Suburban Scholastic Council which will be decided upon during the 2015 2016 school year For the purposes of athletics the following will be the league divisions for the 2015 2016 school year Blue Division Bethlehem Colonie Columbia Guilderland Niskayuna Saratoga Shaker Shenendehowa Grey Division Albany Averill Park Ballston Spa Burnt Hills CBA Albany Mohonasen Schenectady Troy The key factors that played a role in determining the division breakdowns Attempting to preserve natural rivalries Enrollment Geography Strength of overall program The Suburban Scholastic Council has also created a Competition Committee to be chaired by Larry Gillooley athletic director at Niskayuna The charge of this committee will be to review annually our league divisions to determine if changes are needed in our league structure Suburban Council president John Rickert expressed his optimism for this expanded league We have spent considerable time as a council planning for this expansion and we have worked closely with the administrators from the new districts The principals and athletic directors have done a great job of working collaboratively to bring this together in time to create a league schedule for the 2015 2016 school year We look forward to having one of the most organized and competitive leagues for interscholastic athletics in all of New York state About Us Academics Athletics Board of Education Community Student Services Featured Budget Finance Breakfast Lunch Menus Calendar Contact News Staff Resources About Us Budget Finance Calendar Contact Directions Employment Forms News Notifications

  • State action elevates CTE programs to Regents level | Mohonasen Central School District, Rotterdam, NY
    room where people are confusing CTE with the old vocational training which by and large was a tracked system some kids got to go to vocational school some kids got to graduate high school Tisch said We are not saying that students do not need to meet the Common Core Standards as they move forward we know that the 21st century jobs that we are looking to build a supply for in New York state require critical thinking an ability to read at high levels numeracy skills that are covered in these new standards Additional changes to social studies requirements The plan to offer multiple pathways to graduation included additional changes to the state s social studies requirements Currently New York s students must pass the Regents exam in global history and geography but aren t required to take the corresponding course The new regulations mandate that all students entering ninth grade in September 2016 or later take four years of social studies including two in global history and geography Students will still be required to take a full year of U S history a half year of participation in government and a half year of economics In addition the global history Regents exam will be modified to measure student knowledge in only the second year of the course rather than testing students on two years worth of material as is the case currently It is anticipated that the new global history Regents exam will be introduced in June 2018 Students typically take global history and geography in ninth and 10th grades U S history in 11th grade and participation in government and economics in 12th grade Board also approves measures to add flexibility in testing Adjustments to Common Core Regents exams schedule adopted In addition to the testing changes listed above efforts to ease the transition to full implementation of Regents exams aligned to the Common Core Learning Standards CCLS are continuing The Board of Regents made additional adjustments to its requirements and schedule for the 2015 Common Core Regents exams in English Language Arts ELA and mathematics at its December 2014 and January 2015 meetings Changes include the following Setting the last date of administration of the old Integrated Algebra Regents exam from January 2015 to June 2015 Students taking Algebra 1 Common Core aligned instruction that began prior to September 2014 may take the old Integrated Algebra Regents exam in addition to the new Algebra Regents exam to meet the requirement for graduation and to use the higher score for all official purposes In addition through January 2016 at a district s discretion students can opt to take both the old and Common Core Geometry Regents exam and use the higher of the two scores Giving districts the option to have students taking the English Language Arts ELA Regents exam through August 2015 take both the old Comprehensive ELA exam in addition to the new Common Core aligned ELA Regents exam Like with math students can use
