  • State issues new college enrollment data | Mohonasen Central School District, Rotterdam, NY
    completion information Mohonasen High School gathers data at the time of graduation based on what students expect to do after they leave Mohonasen and had previously found that 86 percent of 2012 graduates planned to enroll in a two or four year college Ken Wagner deputy commissioner in the NYSED Office of Curriculum Assessment and Educational Technology acknowledged the potential for differences between local and state data in a recent memo to school districts Possible causes for these discrepancies as outlined in the report included the following Some colleges and universities do not participate in the National Student Clearinghouse data collection or choose to block student level reporting Some students enrolled in participating colleges and universities choose to block student level reporting or are not reported by their colleges because they do not receive financial aid Some local records and National Student Clearinghouse records may not match Although there are reasons why the results for a particular school may be slightly higher than what is contained in the Where are They Now report these reports can be an important tool in your ongoing efforts to evaluate the effectiveness of student pathways through a K 12 course of study and beyond Wagner wrote to school leaders Providing students with pathways to success in college as well as careers is a priority for teachers and administrators at Mohonasen High School For example the rigor of classroom instruction grows throughout a student s K 12 educational experience and at the high school level that education is paired with college focused guidance sessions parent workshops extracurricular opportunities and special events Mohonasen High School offers a number of Advanced Placement and College in the High School classes which students can take for college credit The school also recently received New York State Education Department approval for three Career and Technical Education CTE programs in the areas of Engineering Business Administration and Early Childhood Education CTE programs include both rigorous courses and education in 21st century skill areas like communication work place etiquette interviewing skills and teamwork Mohonasen has partnered with Capital Region BOCES and Schenectady County Community College to expand these college and CTE opportunities Together the three entities will operate the future Center for Advanced Technology Mohonasen set to open in 2016 We are focused on helping our students graduate but even more so we are focused on ensuring our students have a meaningful path to success after they leave our campus said Mohonasen Superintendent Dr Kathleen Spring This is why we have developed and fostered partnerships with BOCES and SCCC this is why we are creating our own CTE programs we want our students to have multiple options so they can find the best suits them Next month the Board of Regents is expected to adopt new regulations that would provide students with multiple course and testing options to receive a high school diploma These regulations are expected to include a Career and Technical Education option where an approved CTE program could possibly

  • Positive reinforcement program improves student behavior, academics | Mohonasen Central School District, Rotterdam, NY
    mason jar and become eligible to receive specific rewards and privileges once the stones reach a designated level My hope is that by rewarding students for a desired behavior it will increase the likelihood that the behavior will reoccur said VanWie More positive behaviors will translate into a better life at school which is a milestone for us all The results of this program have been astounding said VanWie Three of my students earned overall averages of above 80 for the first quarter two students made the Honor Roll for the first time but more importantly students have experienced a newfound confidence in themselves Behavior has improved drastically and academic performance has greatly improved from last year VanWie said students love the new initiative sometimes making it into a friendly competition amongst themselves For example one of the many ways students earn a mile stone is by raising their hand and answering a question correctly in class You should see the students participate hands up almost every time said VanWie This translates into genuine learning as the students need to engage in the lesson material to be able to answer a question correctly and earn a mile stone Seeing the students so engaged in the lessons and watching them perform at a high level reaffirms to me that any student can learn when presented with the right opportunities and approaches to teaching and learning said VanWie I am looking forward to seeing this performance sustain About Us Academics Athletics Board of Education Community Student Services Featured Budget Finance Breakfast Lunch Menus Calendar Contact News Staff Resources About Us Budget Finance Calendar Contact Directions Employment Forms News Notifications Policies Publications Registration Staff Resources Academics APPR Common Core Learning Standards Continuing Education Enrichment Extracurricular Offerings Grant Programs High School Course of Study

  • Robotics students visit local manufacturing companies | Mohonasen Central School District, Rotterdam, NY
