    the way that color can t My paintings take a much different approach Color takes on a very important role in my work The composition is a tangled network of shape form and vibrant color Rachel Empie Spaces created by interlocking tree branches vines and overlapping planes of architectural spaces compel me to analyze their structure I am fascinated by the way organic and inorganic lines interact in complex beautiful ways in the environment Some of my brushstrokes are solely controlled by the motion of my arm while other marks are manipulated and controlled This process relates to the way I deliberately force connections between spaces and lines to organize and make sense of confusing and disconnected relationships observed in my immediate surroundings Steve Blais Presently my photography is my side business www everydayscenesphotography com My photos are taken throughout my travels The name of my business reflects my approach to photography I try to find the beauty in things we take for granted and pass by daily without taking any notice Sixteen photographs are on display one on metal and the remainder on metallic photo paper Tina Mathieu My artwork is a range between a drawing paintings and metal sculptures I typically draw or paint in one of two styles very texturally abstract or illustrative Much of my artwork is related to women and their struggles choices in life There are 4 paintings 2 sculptures and 1 drawing on display Allison Vaughn My paintings are an expression of the human experience of aloneness The academic tradition of the study of art has always been my preferred approach so I am focused on the human form and figurative realism In an effort to evoke a dream like space I apply layer upon layer of thick translucent acrylic paint using a

  • Mohonasen wins three state communications awards | Mohonasen Central School District, Rotterdam, NY
    the Mo Tech Career and Technical Education program to offer more hands on job training programs right here on the Mohonasen campus While these programs have been developed and continually refined the district launched the Mo Tech public information campaign to ensure that students and parents are aware of the many academic opportunities that are available as well as why these programs are so vital in today s world The 48 2 million capital project approved by voters last fall includes a variety of building renovations and additions across the district that will provide high quality facilities for academic programming Included in the project is an advanced technology center which will house a variety of labs and educational spaces designed to mirror real world work environments The technology center will operate in partnership with Capital Region BOCES and Schenectady County Community College We are all about offering greater opportunities for students which will result in more paths to success after school said Mohonasen Superintendent Dr Kathleen Spring Our communications efforts are focused on engaging our community in the discussion on how to best offer these opportunities and ensuring that all stakeholders are involved in what is happening at Mohonasen We re honored that once again our communications work has been recognized as among the best in the state In addition Mohonasen s Communications Coordinator Adrienne Leon was recently named to the most recent class of 35 under 35 Young Professionals by the National School Public Relations Association NSPRA Leon who comes from the Capital Region BOCES Communications Service has led communications efforts in the district since 2008 Questions and comments regarding Mohonasen Communications are always welcome To contact Communications Coordinator Adrienne Leon please call 356 8250 or e mail aleon mohonasen org About Us Academics Athletics Board of Education Community

  • Health departments provide advice on preventing the spread of respiratory illness known as Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) | Mohonasen Central School District, Rotterdam, NY
    the spread of the illness and issue updated reports See HERE and HERE for details Who can get infected with enteroviruses Anyone is susceptible to becoming infected with enteroviruses However infants children and teens are more likely to become ill because they have yet to build up immunity to such viruses In some states children with asthma seem to be at higher risk for developing severe symptoms as do people with chronic illnesses or compromised immune systems What are the symptoms of EV D68 The symptoms of mild cases include runny nose sneezing coughs body aches fever rashes and mouth blisters It is often difficult to tell the difference between the common cold and EV D68 as the symptoms are so similar Parents should contact their family physician with concerns if children have difficulty breathing or if symptoms become severe How does the virus spread Enteroviruses are spread through close contact with someone who is infected for example by touching objects or surfaces contaminated with the virus and then touching your eyes nose or mouth How can I protect myself You can help protect yourself from EV D68 and other viral infections by Frequently and thoroughly washing your hands especially after changing diapers Avoiding touching your eyes nose or mouth with unwashed hands Refraining from kissing hugging and sharing cups or eating utensils with people who are ill Disinfecting surfaces that are touched frequently such as toys and doorknobs especially if someone is sick It is important that we follow common sense rules to prevent the spread of this virus as we do for flu and other contagious illnesses said Acting State Health Commissioner Dr Howard Zucker on the DOH website Because there is no specific treatment or vaccination against this virus our best defense is to prevent it by

  • Mohonasen High School CTE plans receive state approval | Mohonasen Central School District, Rotterdam, NY
    also 21st century pieces that are really important for them to go to the next level Bullinger said These are concepts that traditionally not all students necessarily leave high school with she added We need to infuse more of this into how we educate students We need to deliver the important content and make sure they are ready for the workforce That s how we need to start thinking Each Mohonasen CTE pathway includes a work based learning experience such as an internship or job shadowing opportunity and at least one College in the High School course In order to gain the state CTE designation each pathway had to have an external curriculum review meaning educators from other public school districts and industry professionals in each field approved what students will be learning in each course Bullinger anticipates having the curriculum regularly reviewed by professionals in the field to ensure that what students are learning in each class are the skills they will need to get a job after graduation Our teachers have been and continue to be very ambitious and forward thinking about creating more robust programs This is a way for them and for the school to show how relevant elective programs are to the real world Bullinger said The next step will be integrating subjects like math social students English and science into some of the CTE courses allowing students to gain credit for their core courses through the CTE pathways One of our main objectives as we look to update and expand our academic programs is to provide students with more choices more opportunities Having CTE programs of this caliber in our high school does just that said Mohonasen Superintendent Dr Kathleen Spring This is a really exciting new chapter for us at Mohonasen All Mohonasen

  • State assessment scores show progress | Mohonasen Central School District, Rotterdam, NY

    one student Spring said during her opening day remarks challenging everyone who works at Mohonasen to change one thing about their daily work to help raise student achievement Talk about why you re proud of Mohonasen she said urging faculty and staff to tell their own story and be champions for their schools The district has launched a Twitter account MohonCSD and will be using the hastag MohonMovingForward both on Twitter and on Facebook to share out pictures and information about what Mohonasen students are doing in school The entire Mohonasen community is invited to tune in and follow along to learn more about what Mohonasen students and teachers are doing every day Spring s remarks followed a dynamic and exciting presentation from guest speaker Dr Luis Cruz Dr Cruz told the story about how he turned around the culture in his high school in California The school he said was known as the athletic school but had very poor academic results After he was done student achievement had increased and even surpassed that of an area school that was known for its academics Like Spring Cruz urged everyone in the auditorium to change something about what they are doing in an effort to improve the achievement of all students He urged everyone in the district to work toward a common mission We are the most important profession on the face of the earth we re in the business of saving lives he said adding that changes in the academic culture in his school came from the teachers and the administrators What are you willing to do to make sure kids learn he asked Video includes photos of students and text that was played at opening day About Us Academics Athletics Board of Education Community Student Services Featured Budget Finance
