  • MPPM promotes Journeys of Solidarity with Palestine 2012
    the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 181 II which recommended the partition of Palestine into two states one Jewish and one Arab with a special status for Jerusalem but that was never fulfilled as regards the creation of a Palestinian state The Journeys of Solidarity with Palestine 2012 adopted as its motto Dignity Freedom Identity Living in Palestine Today The Journeys begin on November 15 at High School Professor José Augusto Lucas in Linda a Velha with a session reserved for students of the School There will be a screening of the film A Letter from Sara Mutaz Jankot 2002 followed by a discussion with the students about the current situation in Palestine animated by Carlos Almeida member of the National Directorate of MPPM and Moussa Abunaim Minister Counselor at the Embassy of Palestine The Palestinian Cultural Tradition On November 21 at 9 30 pm at the Municipal Theater in Almada Adel Sidarus will host a session where there will be a video projection with Palestinian folk dances reading of short stories and poetry from Palestine by Maria do Céu Guerra Natália Nunes and Lina Soares and Arab songs interpreted by Lina Soares with musical accompaniment by Luis Reis In the end there will be opportunity to talk with Maria do Céu Guerra Adel Sidarus and Bruno Dias members of the National Directorate of MPPM The Flavors of Palestine The usual dinner with typical dishes of Palestine takes place on November 23 from 8 pm in the Grupo Sportivo Adicense in Lisbon a joint initiative of the MPPM the Diplomatic Mission of Palestine and that collectivity The Mozarabic Ensemble directed by Eduardo Ramos plays Arabic music live Palestine Occupied Land The Journeys continue on 27 November at 9 pm with the screening in the Auditorium of the Parish of Vila

    Ocupação Israelita Guerras e Agressões Refugiados e Deslocados Direitos Humanos Processos de Paz Docs de Referência About Us Statute Organization News Home News MPPM mourns Elsa Rodrigues dos Santos 20 Sep 2012 MPPM NOTES WITH DEEP REGRET THE PASSING OF ELSA RODRIGUES DOS SANTOS Elsa Rodrigues dos Santos activist of MPPM since its foundation and presently a member of the National Directorate died last Tuesday aged 73 victim of sudden illness She was the widow of painter Figueiredo Sobral Elsa Rodrigues dos Santos was an expert in Portuguese language and African literature and was President of the Society of Portuguese Language She was a democratic activist always eager to participate in fights in defense of the April revolution and for Peace and collaborated with the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation and the Portuguese Movement against Apartheid She became a militant in the struggle for the rights and liberation of the Palestinian people since the Great World Conference of Solidarity with the Arab People and their Central Cause Palestine held in Lisbon in November 1979 which was attended by Yasser Arafat There is great consternation among all of us comrades and friends of Elsa To the children grandchildren and other

  • On the 30th anniversary of the massacres of Sabra and Shatila
    women and children were savagely massacred On 16 December of that same year 1982 the UN General Assembly classified the massacres no votes against as an act of genocide All those responsible for the massacre remain unpunished including Ariel Sharon then Israel s defense minister and military chief of the invasion of Lebanon and who would later become Prime Minister of Israel The massacre of Sabra and Shatila is a particularly heinous in a long series of crimes that have marked the history of Israel from its inception to the present day Yet earlier this month of September 2012 Israel repeatedly bombed the Gaza Strip causing casualties among the civilian population According to the latest annual report 2011 of the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights PCHR since the beginning of the second Intifada in September 2000 until the end of 2011 the Israeli military killed 6721 people in the occupied territories of which 1258 24 3 were minors The number of injured stood at 19 728 of whom 6073 30 8 minors On the thirtieth anniversary of the barbaric massacre of Sabra and Shatila the Movement for the Rights of the Palestinian People and Peace in the Middle East MPPM

    anniversary of the independence of Algeria MPPM sent the following message to His Excellency Ms Fatiha Selmane Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People s Democratic Republic of Algeria in Lisbon Excellence The Movement for the Rights of the Palestinian People and Peace in the Middle East MPPM is honored to salute and congratulate Your Excellency the heroic Algerian people and its Sovereign institutions of which your Excellency is the high representative for the passage of so glorious date the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of independence There were many decades of resistance and popular struggles in towns cities and fields against foreign occupation and colonialism to the sacrifice of the peaceful protesters at the colonialist massacre at Sétif on May 8 1945 which paved the way for the uprising of 1 November and for the 8 years of the Great National Liberation War This was victorious in spite of the disproportion of forces due to the growing popular participation including the Algerian women heroines until the proclamation of independence on 5 July 1962 The democratic and revolutionary independence of Algeria at that time had a profound impact first in the Algerian society its standard of living economy and culture Then on the Maghreb Black Africa Western Europe The revolutionary national liberation movements of the then colonies of Portuguese fascism could significantly advance in their struggle Portuguese antifascist and democratic forces benefited from the hospitality of the rulers and the people of Algeria Today with capitalism in a long crisis with no end at sight the international and regional situation is totally different Major Western powers distort and falsify an Arab Spring that barely blossomed to be transformed into its opposite and lead to more wars of aggression in the Middle East and the neocolonial recovery of resources and strategic

    the University Prof Mário Moutinho General Ramalho Eanes former President of the Republic sent a message that was read by Maria do Céu Guerra Intervened then Ambassador Abdou Salam Diallo Ambassador Riyad Mansour Dr Silas Cerqueira Investigator and Secretary for International Relations of the MPPM Prof Dr Pedro Pereira Leite Professor at Universidade Lusófona and Investigator at CES Faculty of Economics University of Coimbra Colonel Carlos Matos Gomes Army Official in reserve and José Manuel Goulão Journalist Dr Carlos Almeida researcher and member of the National Directorate of MPPM closed the works by reading the following statement On 29 November 1947 the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 181 providing for the creation of two states in Palestine under the British mandate territory an Arab state and a Jewish state A few months later was proclaimed the State of Israel But six and a half decades later the Palestinians are still awaiting the recognition of their independent state Throughout sixty five years followed up massacres ethnic cleansing destruction of houses and fields plunder wars Israel occupied the whole of Palestinian territories and neighboring Arab countries Millions of Palestinians today comprise the largest refugee community in the world in many cases living in miserable conditions Promises business processes agreements ensued UN General Assembly and Security Council resolutions pledged respect for the national rights of the Palestinian people and the return of refugees But these resolutions remained on paper On the Palestinian side were made concessions on concessions The right to existence and security of the State of Israel was recognized It was accepted that the future Palestinian state would only occupy one fifth of the territory of Palestine But not even so did the Palestinian state emerge With the permanent connivance of the United States and other major powers Israel continues the occupation and the building of new settlements in the occupied territory Despite the condemnation of the International Court of Justice in The Hague Israel lifted the shameful apartheid wall that divides the Palestinian territories The military assault on the civilian population of Gaza in 2008 clearly shows that to power in Israel barbaric violence is the only way to dialogue Thousands of Palestinians are still imprisoned in Israeli jails including parliamentarians and political leaders The recent hunger strike which imposed a setback to the government of Israel faced a general wall of silence in the so called international community and the situation of Palestinian prisoners despite the imposed setback continues to claim the world s attention by violating all humanitarian norms of international law In 2011 the Palestinian Authority sought that Palestine be accepted as a full member of the United Nations The announcement by the U S that it would use its right of veto prevented any approval in the Security Council The consideration of the case in the General Assembly drags on with no end in sight Today there is not even the fiction of a negotiation process The stagnation in seeking a solution to the Palestinian question

  • Portuguese NGO deliver protest on Palestinian prisioners to Israeli Embassy
    their legitimate rights In fact without the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails there will not be a just solution to the Palestinian question In solidarity with the Palestinian people and their struggle the signatory organizations took the following position which is open for subscription and that was delivered to the embassy of Israel on May 17 in a public ceremony attended by the representatives of the underwriters and many people sympathetic to the cause of the Palestinian people The hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails was a cry of alarm about the condition of the martyred Palestinian people With their courageous actions more than two thousand Palestinian prisoners denounced the violence of Israeli occupation and their determination to continue the struggle for the realization of their legitimate rights About 5 000 Palestinian prisoners many of them imprisoned for years without having been pronounced against them a single charge are subject to inhumane and undignified conditions isolation sometimes for years the ban on family visits or their own lawyers beatings torture and blackmail The health status of many Palestinian prisoners some having gone beyond seventy days of starvation is extremely serious The condition of Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails illustrates the tragedy of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation the violence of an everyday life made of systematic repression of continuous dispossession of land of destruction of houses and fields of expulsions of the continuous expansion of settlements of the meticulous application of a policy aimed at crushing their identity and the suppression of their rights namely the constitution of a state in the territories occupied in 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital and a just solution to the situation Palestinian refugees Thus the signatory organizations Express their solidarity with Palestinian prisoners who carried out
