  • Statute
    Palestine of the United Nations and of the European Union and furthermore with movements throughout whole world including in Israel who are dedicated to the cause of justice and peace between peoples Article 6 Independence 1 The MPPM shall operate its activity with full political religious and economic independence 2 Notwithstanding the provisions set out in the previous paragraph the MPPM may associate with national or international organizations pursuing converging objectives Chapter II Membership Article 7 Acceptance 1 The Members of MPPM are those individual and legal entities Portuguese nationals or residents in Portugal who identify with its principles and aims and whose candidature has been accepted by the National Board of Directors 2 Articles 8 to 12 Rights Duties Fees Voting Rights Chapter III Corporate Bodies Section I General provisions Article 13 Bodies The corporate bodies of the MPPM are the following a The General Assembly b The National Board of Directors c The Financial Audit Commission Article 14 Election and co option 1 The office bearers of the corporate bodies are elected by the General Assembly especially convened for that purpose from the members of the MPPM in full exercise of their rights and by secret direct and universal ballot Article 15 Consensus Without prejudice to what is stated in this Statute the Corporate Bodies of MPPM will always seek consensus in their deliberations Section II General Assembly Article 16 Composition and jurisdiction 1 The General Assembly is the highest body of the MPPM and is composed of all its Members in full exercise of their rights 2 3 It is the responsibility of the General Assembly a To elect the members of the Board of the General Assembly of the National Board of Directors and of the Financial Audit Commission b To appraise discuss and vote the Annual Report and Accounts presented by the National Board of Directors and the advice from the Financial Audit Commission c To appraise and discuss the Annual Report on the situation in the Middle East and prospects for MPPM and other documents and proposals d To appraise and discuss resolutions defining the major policy guidelines and consequential action plans Article 17 Functioning Section III National Board of Directors Article 18 Composition and jurisdiction 1 The National Board of Directors of the MPPM is composed of an even number of members from fifteen to twenty one of which one is the President up to three Vice Presidents a Secretary a Treasurer 2 The National Board of Directors responsibilities will be a To express before national and international public opinion on behalf of the MPPM the main positions defined and political guidelines seeking if necessary the opinion of the Advisory Council b To ensure all the national and international activity of the MPPM according to guidelines and programmes approved by the General Assembly and the National Board of Directors c To develop and submit to the voting of the General Assembly the Annual Report and Account after having obtained the advice from the

    the sole reason that they defend the dignity of their people and fight for the liberation of their land To all the men and women who anywhere in the world when fighting for the rights of the peoples and for the emancipation of the people had to face imprisonment torture and humiliation the situation of Palestinian prisoners is familiar There is no point that Israel propaganda insists in qualifying its regime as the only democracy in the Middle East For those who in Portugal fought the fascist dictatorship faced the farce of the plenary courts and their notorious security measures or were victims of torture and constant humiliation the daily repression and arbitrariness which the Palestinian prisoners and their families are subject to is too violent to not evoke the days of lead in the political jails of Peniche the Aljube or Caxias And it is also why those who resisted and fought with courage the most violent and hideous face of fascism as well as those who in Portugal accompany the heroic struggle of the Palestinian people know the importance of the value of solidarity of fraternal embrace of gestures no matter how simple that convey encouragement and confidence of the persistent efforts to break the wall of silence isolation and libel that Israel and its Zionist supporters cast upon the struggle of the Palestinian people by denouncing the crimes of the occupation and revealing the righteousness of their struggle Thus on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of the Palestinian Prisoner Day MPPM Movement for the Rights of the Palestinian People and for Peace in the Middle East and URAP Union of Portuguese Antifascist Resistant express their deep and heartfelt solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people and especially with the Palestinians patriots imprisoned in Israeli jails and denounce the illegal and illegitimate nature of their arrest and the brutal conditions to which they are subjected by the repressive prison system of Israel They condemn in particular the arrest of children and the practice of torture ill treatment and abuse of Palestinian prisoners as well as the figure of administrative detention and call for the immediate and unconditional release of all prisoners MPPM and URAP reiterate their firm willingness to work in the specific context of each organization and in cooperation with all expressions of public opinion movements for the solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people against the occupation affirming their inalienable right to self determination and independence and the establishment of a free independent and sovereign State in the territories occupied in 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital and with a just solution to the refugee issue in accordance with international law and the relevant United Nations resolutions Lisbon April 17 2015 MPPM Movement for the Rights of the Palestinian People and for Peace in the Middle East URAP Union of Portuguese Antifascist Resistant 04 Apr 2015 FOR THE IMMEDIATE LIBERATION OF KHALEDA JARRAR Khaleda Jarrar an MP in the Palestinian Parliament was

    pena perpétua 15 presos com uma pena superior a 25 anos 30 presos que se encontram nas cadeias desde antes do processo de Oslo 1993 459 presos com uma pena superior a 20 anos A realidade dos presos toca directamente quase todas as famílias e atinge todos os sectores da sociedade palestina mulheres e jovens doentes e idosos sindicalistas advogados académicos e estudantes ministros e deputados jornalistas escritores artistas Desde o início da ocupação dos territórios da Margem Ocidental e da faixa de Gaza em 1967 o número total de presos e detidos palestinos nas prisões israelitas já ultrapassou os 850 000 incluindo 15 000 mulheres e dezenas de milhares de menores As visitas são dificultadas os presos e detidos são privados de livros e roupa apropriada do direito à educação e a uma assistência médica adequada são sujeitos a torturas e violências Morreram nas cadeias israelitas devido aos maus tratos e à dureza das condições 206 presos e detidos 71 morreram em resultado de tortura 54 morreram devido a negligência médica 74 foram assassinados após a detenção e 7 foram mortos a tiro por soldados ou guardas no interior das cadeias Constituindo só por si uma gritante violação dos direitos humanos que merece enérgica condenação a questão dos presos e detidos palestinos nas prisões de Israel é no entanto apenas um aspecto de um problema político mais vasto O fundo da questão é que Israel continua a recusar reconhecer o direito do povo palestino ao seu Estado independente como impõe o direito internacional Israel não só mantém desde há dezenas de anos a ocupação do território da Palestina como prossegue a construção de colonatos e a confiscação de terras nos territórios ocupados em 1967 incluindo Jerusalém Oriental invocando falsas razões de segurança ergue um muro de betão de seis
