    Olga Rozanova Title Man on the Street Analysis of Volumes Year 1913 Biography Listen The Russian artist Olga Rozanova was one of the first advocates of nonfigurative art within the avant garde movement in her country She studied in Bolshakov and from 1904 to 1910 in Moscow with Konstantin Yuone and Ivan Dudin and at the Stroganov School of Applied Arts In 1911 she moved to Saint Petersburg where she soon came into contact with the group of artists belonging to the Union of Youth movement and exhibited alongside them in the group s first show in 1912 During this period the poet Alexei Kruchenykh inventor of the zaum also called absurd or transrational realism introduced her to the Futurist aesthetic Rozanova illustrated many of Kruchenykh s publications such as Te li le and began to write zaum poems In 1914 she met Filippo Marinetti and shortly afterwards her work was shown at the Prima esposizione libera futurista internazionale in Rome She also took part in the Russian Futurist exhibitions Tramway V and 010 The Last Futurist Exhibition of Paintings held in Saint Petersburg in 1915 Her interest in studying colour and simplifying forms which is evident even in her early works painted in the Cubo Futurist style that prevailed among the Russian artists of the day steered her towards abstraction and led her to espouse Kazimir Malevich s Suprematism She collaborated with him and Liubov Popova in producing the magazine Supremus of which no issues were ever published Following the Revolution of 1917 Rozanova became involved in various cultural initiatives such as Proletkult Proletarian Cultural Organisation and took part in the preparations for the First of May celebrations After her death in 1918 a major exhibition was staged in her honour in Moscow Search Advanced search Featured Products Catalogue

    in 1577 After the death of his father in 1587 he returned to Antwerp where his parents had previously lived before moving to Germany He began his artistic training in the studio of Tobias Verhaecht and Adam van Noort continuing his studies with Otto van Veen with whom he remained until he was twenty In 1600 Rubens is documented in Italy in the service of the Duke of Mantua During this trip he visited Rome and other cities of North Italy In 1603 on a mission for the Duke he went to Spain returning to Mantua in 1604 at which point he was appointed court painter to Vicenzo Gonzaga In 1608 Rubens moved to Antwerp and in 1609 he entered the service of the Archdukes Albert and Isabella Among the works he realised in 1610 are the Self Portrait with the Artist s Wife Isabella Brandt in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich and the two triptychs which confirmed Rubens s fame as an artist The Raising of the Cross and The Descent from the Cross both in Antwerp Cathedral In 1620 The Crucifixion was painted for the new church of the Jesuits in Antwerp Two years later Marie de Medici commissioned a series of events from her own life for her residence the Palais de Luxembourg In 1628 Rubens was once again in Spain on a diplomatic mission and the following year was in England in both countries he was received with full diplomatic honours In 1638 he executed the decoration of the Torre de la Parada for Philip IV with scenes from Ovid s Metamorphoses Also from this decade are the Garden of Love in the Prado Madrid and The Saint Ildephonsus Triptych now in the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna In the last years of his career Rubens devoted considerable

    circle with his father Isaack who was a painter and frame maker and with his uncle the landscape painter Salomon van Ruysdael Unlike his father and his uncle Ruisdael changed the y in his surname for i a formula that he used throughout his life to sign his paintings Jacob was a precocious artist and his first works date from 1646 while he was still a teenager Two years later his name is registered in the guild of Saint Luke in Haarlem Around 1650 he travelled with his friend the painter Nicolaes Berchem to Westphalia During that trip they saw the castle of Bentheim which inspired a series of paintings by Jacob in which the castle is seen from different viewpoints He also visited the castle at Steinfurt during this journey and painted it several times Approximately thirty etchings are known from this period Around 1656 Jacob van Ruisdael is documented in Amsterdam where he became a citizen three years later and during these years his work became increasingly complex Winter landscapes scenes of waterfalls windmills and marine views the latter revealing the influence of Jan de Porcellis and Simon de Vlieger all appear in his repertoire at this date It has been suggested that some of his landscapes include hidden symbolism relating to the waterfalls and windmills among other elements The Jewish Cemetery Detroit Institute of Arts The Castle of Bentheim National Gallery of Ireland Dublin and numerous views of cities such as those of Haarlem can all be considered among Ruisdael s finest works Nicolaes Berchem Philips Wouwerman Adriaen van de Velde and Johannes Lingelbach painted the secondary figures in Ruisdael s landscapes In addition he collaborated with Thomas de Keyser in the execution of the landscape in the monumental portrait of The Family of the Burgomaster of
