  • Mandatory Parent Education Requirement in Massachusetts - MWI
    most MWI divorce mediation clients file a 1A No Fault Divorce in Massachusetts most of our clients attend an approved program between mediation sessions or after meeting with a mediator for the first time For a list of approved Parent Education Programs by county click here This requirement started in 1994 and while some parents are not pleased that they are required to attend most report that the program was helpful and that they learned co parenting and parenting apart tips A few things to note about the parent education program 1 Save the yellow certificate of attendance as you will file it in court with the rest of your divorce papers 2 Parents of the same child ren cannot participate in the same class at the same time you must attend separate classes You may however attend different classes with the same provider 3 The cost of the program is 80 If you can t afford the fee A party may pay a reduced fee of 5 00 to the provider if that party has submitted and had allowed an Affidavit of Indigency and Request for Waiver Substitution or State Payment of Fees and Costs This form is available at the court and needs to be approved before attending the program 4 What if I can t attend a program Complete a Motion to Waive Attendance click here Statewide Only with Judicial Approval The KidCare for Co Parents Interactive DVD is available statewide ONLY with Judicial Approval following a hearing on Motion to Waive Attendance at a Parent Education Program You may also be interested in the following Attend a Webinar to Learn More About Divorce Mediation During this free webinar a Massachusetts divorce mediator will address what happens in divorce mediation from the first mediation session to filing
