similar websites forums that I visit http www wetpixel com and http www herpsofarkansas com integrate things like news stories recent forum posts recent photos and recent social media content on their these could probably be set up to update automatically so that it doesn t take too much work to manage The homepage could be a central hub that connects all the various arms of NANFA activity Back to excellent suggestions and links here Also have been so impressed with this organization community and resource I believe nanfa org homepage and it s contents our gallery our forum and resources could all be better integrated and consistent in appearance Graphics and layout could use an update We should also consider improving navigational menus and related features throughout Facebook YouTube or our own video gallery species profiles photo gallery articles etc should all be better integrated AND featured There are SO many software modifications that we could take advantage of to improve the community experience For example we really should have a latest posts block which would order topics by recent post This could also be echoed on the homepage Other community enhancements such as contests should be considered photo contests trip report contests profile contests as well as improved community forums Off Topic and an improved new member experience Lastly while I applaud the generous access our current free community membership provides and want to see this remain I would also suggest that paid members of NANFA have special access to several additional new features Back • Request for Olympic Mudminnow Occurrence Data - Scientific Discussion - NANFA Forum
on statewide genetic analysis done by USFWS in 2012 that portion of the population was identified as a priority for research and conservation based on small size and historical isolation We are using existing presence data for Olympic mudminnow as the basis for our species niche distributional modeling the outputs will given some indication of potential suitable habitat and help guide our sampling efforts this summer We plan to publish the results from this modeling effort but not the raw data Most of this data comes from Washington State s Priority Habitat and Species Database PHS http wdfw wa gov conservation phs and US Fish and Wildlife Service but we are also requesting any verified occurrences recent or otherwise that you may know of which are not in PHS or you are uncertain Even single geographic locations would help Occurrence data on the Olympic Peninsula is especially sparse and we would be particularly interested in those data points We are working with USFWS and WDFW to update the PHS database as part of this effort so not only would the data help us out but if occurrences can be verified and put into PHS you would be helping future mudminnow research too In related news we just published a research article January issue of Transactions of the American Fisheries Society on occupancy and detection of mudminnow based recent surveys that we conducted in the Chehalis River We ve attached the article which relates to dominant environmental predictors that we discovered for mudminnow as well as development of standardized sampling protocols We hope this latest contribution is useful to the community Please contact us if you have presence data for mudminnow that you would be willing to share to our effort Thanks so much for your consideration Cheers Julian Julian D
