    microwave assisted growth of the nanorods Deposition of ZnO seeding film through simple spray pyrolysis method is envisaged to substantially decrease the deposition time besides allowing well oriented and highly dense nanorod arrays Growth under microwave irradiation besides further enhancement in the growth rate would improve the visible light photocatalytic activity due to the high defect concentration in the as grown nanorods In addition to the above the work would also include studies on ZnO nanorods loaded with tin oxide SnO2 nanocrystals for further enhancement in the activity The loading would be tried in two ways dip coating dipping substrates carrying ZnO nanorod arrays in to aqueous solution of tin chloride SnCl2 and the subsequent annealing spray pyrolysis spraying aqueous solution of SnCl2 over pre deposited ZnO nanorod arrays on glass at high temperature The studies would further be extended to include the hydrothermal synthesis of zinc stannate Zn2SnO4 one dimensional nanostructures on glass and their visible light photocatalysis August 2007 May 2009 M S in Microelectronics Nanotechnology School of Engineering Technology Asian Institute of Technology Pathumthani Thailand Masters thesis title Studies on zno nanorods for photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue in aqueous solution Thesis short Summary In this thesis work we have focused on the investigation of the photocatalytic activity of ZnO nanorods fabricated through a simple low temperature wet chemical route The whole experimental work encompassed the study of various growth parameters so that the most optimal way from the aspect of the high photocatalytic efficiency could be evolved The substrates used for the purpose were normal glass slides while the photocatalytic activities of all the samples were examined through decolorization of 5µM aqueous methylene blue MB under visible light of intensity nearly one sun 100klux The various parameter studied included effect of the concentration of the precursor
