  • AIT offers to support government in promoting country as a hub
    use of English and its reputation among foreigners could support the government in boosting the influx of international students to Thailand AIT Vice President Prof Worsak Kanok Nukulchai was recently interviewed by The Nation newspaper on the role of AIT in Thailand AIT s multinational atmosphere promotes the use of English and its reputation among foreigners could support the government in promoting study in Thailand The government should appoint AIT as a centre collaborating with Thai universities such as Chulalongkorn and Mahidol I want AIT to share experience teaching techniques and lecturers with them giving these lecturers a chance to work with foreign lecturers in the international atmosphere at AIT I believe this will promote the region s education hub policy Prof Worsak said AIT has requested an investment from the Royal Thai Government as a gift for the Institute s 50th anniversary The investment will fund the expansion of the institute s basic infrastructure and fund the establishment of nanotechnology food science and biotechnology teaching Every country is competing to be a leader in nanotechnology AIT wants nanotechnology studies but it has no budget as it is a nonprofit organisation With funds AIT would be able to develop nanotechnology

  • Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria calls on AIT to explore partnership
    joint research projects capacity building and poverty alleviation all of which could lead to more students from Nigerian coming to Thailand At a meeting on August 21st AIT President Prof Said Irandoust briefed Ambassador Suleiman on the institute s recent designation by the United Nations as the permanent site of the world s first Regional Centre of Excellence on the Millennium Development Goals MDGs and how this and other initiatives could help with Nigeria s sustainable development This was followed by an overview of AIT s Asia Africa Initiative for Higher Learning in Science and Technology for Development concept paper that is aimed at bridging the science and technology gap between Asia and Africa through south south cooperation The Nigerian Ambassador has expressed great interest in AIT and has offered to assist with promotional efforts not only in Nigeria but also other parts of African The ambassador also assured institute officials that he would help in connecting AIT with government agencies private and public sector agencies and research institutes towards further enhancing the cooperation between AIT and Nigeria The meeting was attended by H E Mr Umaru Azores Suleiman Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Thailand accompanied by Mr Abubakar Ramat Salihu Second Secretary Embassy of Nigeria visited AIT During their visit to AIT they also met Prof Vilas Wuwongse Vice President for External Relations Prof Sudip Rakshit Vice President for Research Dr Joydeep Dutta Associate Dean SET Dr Jonathan Shaw Director AIT extension Dr Pritam K Shrestha Head External Relations and Communication Office ERCO Dr Roland Amousou Guenou Manager Asia Africa Initiative and Mr Tenzin Rabgyal Program Officer Mr Othniel Mintang Yila a Nigerian doctoral candidate shared his experiences of living and studying at AIT and informed the ambassador that he had chosen AIT because the research

    that the Fifth Industrial Revolution is on based on semiconductors genetic software and fibre optics While stressing the need for entrepreneurship in the field of optics Dr Breault urged students to create their own companies In Korea we created a cluster comprising of 297 companies with five people each and after three years the total revenue from this cluster was 1 billion he said Dr Breault added that the dotcom turmoil of 2001 did not affect the optics industry and this has resulted in substantial investments in this field Singapore has invested 1 billion while Korea has invested another 800 million Optics has now entered toys medical devices chip manufacturing cars food security devices and systems in general He identified Malaysia Mexico Colombia Canada Ukraine and US as key locations for the optic industry and earnestly hoped that Thailand would emerge as another hub In an inspiring lecture where he cited his own example of how he has never worked for anyone but had always created jobs Dr Breault how he started his own company with 200 in late 1979 and had grown to be a millionaire by 1984 A strong votary of student companies Dr Breault remarked Money does not create companies brains do Earlier Dr Joydeep Dutta Director of the Nanotechnology Center of Excellence welcome Dr Breault describing him recognized as one of the world s leading experts in the area of stray light analysis and suppression About Dr Robert P Breault Dr Breault has been involved in over 275 stray light analyses using the APART stray light analysis program which he authored He was instrumental in the fabrication and or use of five different devices to measure the bi directional scattering characteristics of surfaces Dr Breault has received awards of recognition from NASA 1977 1978 1984 and
