    easier 2 Do a little pre research Before you even apply for a nanotechnology program contact someone from the faculty If you already have an idea of what you want to do as a research go straight to the person who is an expert in the subject For example if you are interested in solar cells get in touch with the professor or a researcher who is involved in energy physics or quantum mechanics Ask relevant questions Does the institute center have the resources for your proposed research or interest Do they have the expertise You don t want to end up starting the work and find out that there are no resources to do the research and you have to switch your thesis 3 Have the Passion Passion is what drives people to do the unthinkable It s also what makes the work worthwhile and interesting Don t just do it for a degree Really give it forethought and understand what is it that interests you Nanotechnology is a multidisciplinary field and is open to so many wonderful innovations Are you interested in energy storage or saving the environment Do you like electronic products Not interested in gadgets and gizmos but want do something for the fashion or clothing industry There is a place for you there as well as nanotechnology is being used to create advanced synthetic materials that repel water and dirt keeping clothes clean for longer 4 Continually consult with your advisor Although most researchers and students do this anyway some fail to take their expert advice Some are too focused and don t take heed of their advisors counsel and end up having to change or divert their research thesis Examine risks and costs with your advisor s They will always make sure you are

    Dutta for having accepted to assume the responsibilities of Vice President for Academic Affairs and wished him every success in this challenging endeavour The President also encouraged everyone to offer their full support and cooperation to the newly appointed VPAA in the best interests of the Institute The AIT President also thanked the other candidates who had evinced interest for the VPAA position Prof Dutta is currently Professor and Director of the Center of Excellence in Nanotechnology CoEN at AIT He is visiting Professor at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne Switzerland and Royal Institute of Technology Sweden Prof Dutta s broad research interests include work on the self organization of nanoparticles construction of niche devices nanoparticles and its applications in electronics and biology He has written three text books entitled Introduction to Nanoscience and Fundamentals of Nanotechnology and Introduction to Nanoscience and Nanotechnology He has over 130 peer reviewed original research publications more than 660 citations in Scopus with an h index of 16 nine book chapters three patents five ongoing applications and has delivered more than 60 invited and keynote lectures Prof Dutta completed his Ph D in 1990 from the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science
