    Housing program subsidized by the federal government and administered by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation This resulted in a total portfolio of 106 housing units eleven of which are located in the town of Espanola Ontario The corporation s assets are estimated to be worth in excess of 7 4 million dollars Housing and Rents Native People of Sudbury Development Corporation s portfolio is comprised mainly of scattered detached semi detached and duplex housing units The corporation does however own and operate a bungalow style six unit Elder s building three townhouse developments and two apartment blocks with stacked units Tenant rent is based on income and includes a fridge stove water and heat Domestic hydro used for cooking power and lights is an additional charge Tenants are required to provide evidence of their incomes in order to qualify for the geared to income rents offered by the corporation Liaison Service In addition to the geared to income rents the corporation offers a tenant liaison service The Native Tenant Liaison Officer assists tenants to obtain community services makes referrals whenever required provides liaison between the Native People of Sudbury Development Corporation office and tenants and publishes a quarterly newsletter Tenants

    of which includes the following he has been on the Board of Wigwamen Incorporated Ontario s oldest and largest Urban Native Housing corporation in Toronto since 1977 and has served as that corporation s President since 1995 Bill is actively involved with Operation Red Nose a volunteer group during the Christmas season He has been a member of the North American Indian Club for many years and has served as the club s President for part of that time He also has been a Director for Habitat for Humanity Bill has various licenses in different trades and has completed many courses in safety fire and first aid He attended Garnier College Residential School in Spanish Ontario He has a wide interest in all fields of knowledge His interest in serving on the Board of Directors of Native People of Sudbury Development Corporation is because it is a corporation similar to Wigwamen Incorporated helping Native families and individuals secure safe affordable and decent housing in an urban setting In his spare time Bill enjoys reading listening to music outdoor adventures such as canoeing kayaking golfing hockey and exploring life around him Bill says that he likes to be involved in projects so that his mind doesn t go to waste Bill lives by the philosophy of doing the best I can in whatever I try D r Kevin FitzMaurice Treasurer Kevin FitzMaurice has been teaching in the discipline of Native Studies for the past thirteen years He is a graduate of Trent s Indigenous Studies doctoral program and an ongoing student of Anishnaabe Cree knowledge Kevin began teaching as an Instructor with Trent Universities Indigenous Studies department and is now an Assistant Professor at the University of Sudbury Native Studies where he specializes in Canadian politics and Aboriginal peoples Aboriginal governance

    he was hired as the Housing Coordinator for Native People of Sudbury Development Corporation in 1984 At the time he was the only staff member to oversee 31 housing units scattered throughout Sudbury Over the years as the corporation s portfolio and staff grew in number his job title was changed to Executive Director Reporting to the Board of Directors James now manages 106 housing units and a staff of three After work hours James enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons photography exercising at the gym gardening listening to music oil painting reading walking and swimming Marilyn Cada Executive Assistant Marilyn Cada has been working as part of the Native People of Sudbury Development Corporation management team since 1992 Marilyn was raised on Sheshegwaning First Nation and after high school attended Georgian College in Barrie and Ontario Business College in Sudbury where she obtained a diploma in Business Administration In her spare time Marilyn enjoys listening to music working out at the gym reading going for walks visiting with family and spending quality time with her husband and two sons Bre nda Desrochers Na tiv e Tenant Liaison Officer Brenda Desrochers was born in Geraldton Ontario and
