    to the American Red Cross for their North Dakota flood relief efforts Industry representatives recently presented the funds to the American Red Cross North Dakota Ron Ness president of the North Dakota Petroleum Council said The Red Cross does a great job and this is the best way for us to support flood relief efforts across the state This idea was generated by our membership When several members contacted us wanting to support the flood relief efforts across the state we hoped to raise around 10 000 but the amount we collected was way beyond our expectations Many companies and individuals in the oil and gas industry stepped up with financial support Our members contributed over 12 000 for the Northwood Tornado Relief effort in 2007 and now nearly 80 000 for flood relief I m really proud of what our industry has done for the people of North Dakota Sherri Thomsen regional executive director with the Minn Kota Chapter of the Red Cross said Red Cross Chapters across North Dakota are thrilled with the generosity from the North Dakota Petroleum Council members The American Red Cross relief efforts are made possible by donations like these generous contributions from the members of the North Dakota Petroleum Council Thomsen says We thank them for their support of the Red Cross and for helping our ability to assist people across North Dakota when they need it the most The Red Cross flood relief efforts in North Dakota have included 102 960 meals served 350 869 snacks served during sandbagging and levee patrol 51 Emergency Response Vehicles deployed for mobile feeding 902 trained volunteers and staff deployed 4 310 mental health consultations by professional mental health workers 1 431 overnight stays in 12 Red Cross shelters and 1 369 clean up kits Petroleum

    Dakota Posted 7 10 09 Fri BISMARCK N D It s a way to bring the people of western North Dakota and those in the oil industry together to eat learn and get to know each other said Ron Ness President of the North Dakota Petroleum Council It will provide a nice fun atmosphere and is designed to give those who live and work in the area an opportunity to learn more about drilling and production operations directly from the operators The Bakken Rocks Cookfest is a two day event On July 29 the event kicks off in Killdeer at the Lion s Park from 5 8 p m MT The next day July 30 will consist of a repeat performance in the Stanley area at Doug Kinnoin s farm located 12 miles south of Stanley and 1 mile east on Belden Road 51st St NW from 5 8 p m CT For both events everyone is welcome at no cost and invited to come and be the judge of the oil industry s best BBQ Local entertainment will also be on hand in both locations Alcohol is not permitted Both events will feature educational booths on topics in the

    is generally agreed that it will be a long time before the economy is given a clean bill of health Many Americans are suffering Millions are unemployed and millions more live in fear of losing their jobs their homes and cars and their retirement savings The impacts of the struggling national economy are not as severe in North Dakota With our strong agriculture and energy sectors we appear to have escaped many of the devastating effects of the nation s economic ills In North Dakota the oil industry employs nearly 8 000 people directly and supports another 38 500 jobs indirectly These are men and women who work hard to support their families and keep their communities and schools vibrant It simply doesn t make sense to impose an additional tax burden on the companies that provide these jobs possibly forcing them to follow companies in other economic sectors into a major downsizing mode and discourage investment in development of the domestic oil and gas exploration and production North Dakota s oil industry is one of the state s largest economic contributors providing more than 8 2 billion to the state s economy in 2007 and paid 515 million in state oil production taxes in 2008 We have seen over the past few years what an active oil industry can mean to North Dakota in terms of jobs wealth creation and tax revenues We have also doubled our oil production and moved from the ninth to the fifth largest oil producing state The new tax proposals could significantly reduce oil activity in North Dakota by as much as 30 percent to 50 percent which will result in significant job losses and a potential economic downturn There is a better way to add more dollars to the government s coffers Allowing
