    rare plants The Hope Goddard Iselin Foundation has issued a generous 500 000 challenge and we must raise ten times the amount of the foundation s gift to complete this vitally important Seed Ark by 2020 A new series of online courses in native plant botany and horticulture designed to extend the regional reach of our education programs The start up funding already received has underwritten the curriculum development and computer consultant Your support is critical to providing excellent student services field site collaboration and instructor training Native plant propagation research at Nasami Farm to preserve and boost genetic diversity on the region s landscapes Our staff is growing from seed and without pollinator killing pesticides native species that are either typically produced by cloning or are just not available in the nursery trade Your gift will help accelerate seed collection and propagation trials and will make hard to find New England native plants available for your garden and for ecological restoration projects Improvements to Garden in the Woods such as the next phase of the revival of the Curtis Woodland Garden and a new design for the area destroyed when a windstorm felled a monumental white pine Fifty years after Will Curtis gave the Society his beloved garden on his 82nd birthday your generosity can ensure its enduring beauty for the next fifty years Essential resources such as the Field Guide to New England s Wildflowers 2016 State of the Plants report 2015 Go Botany 2012 and Flora Novae Angliae 2011 We have more than twenty years of continual scientific research data that can be used to help professionals and the public make key decisions about species and habitat management as well as a wealth of experience in propagation Sharing all this information in user friendly formats requires funding for regular updates For example it takes 25 000 a year to maintain the Go Botany website and keep it compatible with the software that runs your computer tablet and smart phone The collection of coastal native plant seed for use in restoration projects at federal wildlife refuges national parks and other public lands hit hard by Hurricane Sandy The funding from the U S Fish and Wildlife Service requires a match totaling 100 000 Your donation will help make possible the expeditious collection of seed from hundreds of plant populations Internships for the next generation to learn about conservation and horticulture With us students have an opportunity to learn how to conduct scientific inventories and surveys control invasive species collect and bank seeds propagate plants and manage a botanic garden This is important practical training to address the steep decline over the last twenty years in botanic education at the college level and it relies on your philanthropic support Our 2016 Annual Fund supports all these projects and so much more Your contribution matters We move forward every year with leading edge programs but it takes generous personal contributions from kind individuals like you to ensure we can turn
