  • New Mexico Museum of Art - The Curve: Center Award Winners, 2012
    2012 The New Mexico Museum of Art partners again this year with CENTER an internationally renowned organization supporting gifted photographers with an exhibition of photographs by Anastasia Taylor Lind and Odette England first place winners in the CENTER Awards for Project Competition and Project Launch respectively www visitcenter org First place in the Project Competition was awarded to Anastasia Taylor Lind for her series The National Womb about the birth encouragement program introduced in Nagorno Karabakh in the South Caucasus highlands in 2008 after the 1991 1994 war between its ethnic Armenians and ethnic Azeris Taylor Lind is a British photojournalist based in the Middle East part of the VII Agency s mentor program Her project was selected by an eminent trio of jurors Greg Hobson Curator of Photographs at the National Media Museum in Bradford England Paul Moakley Deputy Photo Editor at TIME magazine and Christopher Steighner Senior Editor at Rizzoli Publications Inc In addition to the first prize the jurors also awarded three Juror s Choice awards and three Honorable Mention awards work by these winners will be shown on a flat screen monitor in the exhibition Pablo Martinez Scott Conarroe Stijn Marie Alejandro Cartagena Peter van Agtmael and Thilde Jensen First place in CENTER s Project Launch is Odette England for her series Thrice Upon a Time Based in Rhode Island the Australian born was named the Magenta Foundation Flash Forward Emerging Photographer in 2010 and 2009 was the recipient of the HotShoe Photofusion Award in 2010 and earned second prize in the Px3 Prix de la Photographie in 2010 England s prize winning body of work is a collaborative undertaking in which her parents revisit the family dairy farm in South Australia lost to them for financial reasons while wearing photographic negatives on the soles of

    of the New Mexico Museum of Art s centennial we are presenting a year long cycle of alcove exhibitions The format of these Alcove Shows can be traced back to the 1917 founding of the Art Gallery of the Museum of New Mexico Small one person exhibitions were held in the gallery alcoves through the 1950s resuming in the mid 1980s and again in the early 1990s The museum is continuing this tradition with a cycle of nine exhibitions that will include forty five artists from across the state Five artists will exhibit for five weeks at a time from March of 2012 through early April of 2013 These artist centered showcases feature new ideas artists at all stages of their careers and artwork that is being made in New Mexico right now Alcove 12 1 features the art of Julia Barello David Forlano Jane Lackey Ted Larsen and Linda Swanson from March 23 April 29 2012 Alcove 12 2 features the art of Steve Fitch Harmony Hammond Terri Rolland Robert M Ellis and August Muth from May 4 June 10 2012 Alcove 12 3 features the art of Susan Dopp Michael Edge Miguel Gandert Rebekah Potter and Todd Volz from June 15 July 29 2012 Alcove 12 4 features the art of Lucrecia Troncoso Nancy Sutor Paula Castillo Nancy Judd and Will Wilson from August 3 September 9 2012 Alcove 12 5 features the art of Tom Miller Louis Schalk Scuba Sandra Wang and Crockett Bodelson Toadhouse and Susan York from September 14 October 21 2012 Alcove 12 6 features the art of Kate Carr Michael Borowski Lawrence Fodor Karina Hean and Ellen Babcock from October 26 December 2 2012 Alcove 12 7 features the art of Marc Baseman Matthew Chase Daniel Eric Garduno Jeanette Pasin Sloan and Jared
