integrating his interest in cultural diversity with his medical education Kaylah Ibidapo University of California Los Angeles David Geffen School of Medicine PCLP Site St John s Well Child Family Center Kaylah Ibidapo is passionate about healthcare community service fitness and health promotion for youth She has worked abroad in Thailand to conduct community health research on the association between high STD and pregnancy rates and lack of sex education amongst Asian adolescents She founded a running club to engage young women interested in healthy lifestyles and fitness She is currently involved in community service and mentoring programs around Atlanta and hopes to pursue a project promoting health among inner city youth Brittany Jones Linares Morehouse School of Medicine PCLP Site Science Center in San Antonio PCLP Site AltaMed Health Services Corporation A second year medical student Stephanie Joseph is committed to working with underserved communities to eliminate health disparities As an undergraduate she tutored refugee children in Nashville tutored local middle school classes and became a certified CPR instructor As a medical student Stephanie has developed and facilitated a sexual health program for the youth of Atascosa County She plans to continue to use her social skills passion for others and scientific curiosity to improve community health Cherryl Matias University of Southern California PCLP Site AltaMed Health Services Corporation Cherryl Matias has a diverse background working with the medically marginalized During her undergraduate career she became involved with a student run free health clinic in downtown San Francisco Her 5 year service as a health coach member of the Board of Directors and youth mentor helped her discover her passion for community medicine and patient advocacy Cherryl also participated in a surgical medical mission in the Philippines Cherryl remains active in the community as a tutor to underprivileged underserved populations domestically and internationally enhancing contextual care through improving access while establishing lasting rapport She has worked as a liaison between doctors and patients to manage chronic diseases in West Los Angeles She has worked in Thailand the Honduras and Kenya to further global health In Kenya she conducted influenza surveillance in rural hospitals SchMiyah she worked as the coordinator for a summer urban health fellowship that worked directly with the communities of Garden and Wilmington to provide various healthcare services such as health education Raleigh Fatoki a first year medical student has a passion for technology economics and medicine Early exposure to clinics that cater to underserved communities influenced him to study economics as an undergrad and become part of the new breed of physicians who can effectively manage patient care medically and economically Raleigh is currently Executive Director of a student run free clinic that addresses health care disparities by providing free high quality medical and dental care to Nashville s underserved populations Aubrey Grant Meharry Medical College PCLP Site Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center As a third year medical student Aubrey Grant successfully integrates cardiovascular research global health advocacy and care for underserved populations in his local community Aubrey has tutored inner city youths through his fraternity and is a weekly volunteer at a community health clinic His project will combine his love of cooking with diabetes prevention established a scholarship for minority students and a mentoring program in a mobile home community She worked to help students with physical disabilities and participated in Medical Mission trips As a medical student she is part of the Global Medicine longitudinal curriculum and is part of a scholars program focused on the cultural social and economic factors affecting Latino health Miranda McNear Meharry Medical College PCLP Site Neighborhood Health As an undergraduate Miranda became a public service scholar focusing on medicine and serving the underserved After graduation she served with a national volunteer corps Miranda directly connected with the local community by tutoring and mentoring disadvantaged sixth grade students at an inner city school These experiences gave Miranda the desire to become a pediatrician and help eliminate health care disparities seen in at risk youth Katherine Moore Meharry Medical College PCLP Site Neighborhood Health Katherine Moore a first year medical student is committed to serving the underserved As an undergraduate student she organized several health fairs and AIDS awareness events for her collegee and community Katherine volunteers at a student run clinic TN where she works to meet the needs of medically underserved patients She plans to pursue a career in family medicine with the hopes of creating strong patient physician relationships and encouraging those in underrepresented populations to take an active role in their health Montray Smith Northern Kentucky University PCLP Site Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center Montray Smith is a postmasters Primary Care Family Nurse Practitioner graduate student at Northern Kentucky University She has performed medical missions with local national and international head of the health and wellness committee After graduating she began teaching in her hometown of Washington DC where she was given the task of teaching math and science to students who suffered from many social and academic deficiencies Nikkia Blake Morehouse School of Medicine PCLP Site Bedford Stuyvesant Family Health Center Inc A first year medical student Nikkia Blake is dedicated to working with underserved populations Over the past year Ms Blake has completed a yearlong teaching experience with Refugee Family Services one of the most active refugee family support service agencies in the metro Atlanta area As a medical student she has volunteered for a student led healthcare provider for the underserved population Ms Blake plans to expand her volunteer efforts through participation in an ongoing medical project which provides primary care to the locals of northeastern Peru Anita Isama Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine PCLP Site Urban Health Plan Inc A returning GE NMF Primary Care Leadership Program Scholar Anita continued to apply the tools that she learned during her 2014 GE NMF PCLP experience Anita served as co director of a high school pipeline program that exposed high school students to the sciences health care careers and health disparities Anita also volunteered in a phlebotomy lab at a west side Chicago clinic Anita is excited to explore her interests in pediatrics and access to care Adriana Nunez University of California San Francisco School of Nursing PCLP Site Bedford Stuyvesant Family Health Center Inc As an undergraduate student Adriana participated in health outreach and community service for local underserved communities through a student run organization She also volunteered at a non profit healthcare facility aimed at providing quality and affordable care Prior to nursing school Adriana volunteered at two low cost no cost community clinics in Roátan Honduras Adriana aims to bridge health disparities including socioeconomic and cultural differences and hopes to increase diversity in the healthcare field through mentorship for students of color interested in healthcare Maninder Sohi Shenandoah University PCLP Site Urban Health Plan Inc Maninder Sohi is committed to serving the community through volunteer work and she plans to work with a diverse patient population as a healthcare provider Through her volunteer experience with a local free clinic Maninder had the opportunity to interact with uninsured patients who were able to receive health services through the clinic While participating in a medical mission trip Maninder had the opportunity to work on an interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide general medical care and address oral health care with communities in Leon Nicaragua Danielle Whittaker Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University PCLP Site Bedford Stuyvesant Family Health Center Inc Danielle effectively integrates her desire to be of service with her interests in the social determinants of health As a public health fellow based in New York City she garnered relationships with community partners throughout the city and witnessed the importance of having a strong health center at the core of communities with limited access to health care Danielle continues to be involved in her community through tutoring serving at community health fairs and Arianne is an active member of student groups at her school where she strives to increase campus awareness and interest in serving the underserved Shahriar Irani The Ohio State University College of Medicine PCLP Site Health Care Center for the Homeless Shahriar volunteered at a free clinic in downtown Columbus where he worked with members of the community to teach preventative care to children and pregnant women Shahriar has published two pieces highlighting the most efficient methods in delivering care to the underserved He is currently doing preceptorships in Columbus Ohio where the majority of patients cannot afford basic medical needs Evesha Kenlyn Morehouse School of Medicine PCLP Site Health Care Center for the Homeless During her undergraduate career Evesha has held tutoring roles including working as a supplemental instructor and volunteering at an elementary school Evesha conducted research on smoking cessation and worked on several projects through which she has consistently interacted with low income patients including work ad a program analyst and program planner Evesha continues to study the interconnections between individual health and community and public health Jonathan Williams Howard University College of Medicine PCLP Site Health Care Center for the Homeless As an undergraduate Jonathan was the only African American in his graduating class to earn a BS degree in mathematics at the University of Florida in 2011 During that time he worked as a research assistant in a neuroscience laboratory Upon graduation Jonathan actively shadowed
